My first post!

Hi everyone! I am entering the brave new world of the Blogs!
Today was a fantastic Indian summer day, so I phoned up my 82 yr. old friend Midge and we had a last golf game for this year-boo hoo! I am forever grateful I could get in any games this year because of my stupid ankles and hernia--soldier on!
Today is my dear grandson David's birthday, so Happy, Happy and yesterday was Sally's so a belated Happy! We all miss you!
Yesterday I made an old English traditional sandwich, a "Chip Butty"! This is two pieces of bread and in the middle you put lots of home made french fries, mmm! It's more common in the North of England than the South.
Just finished watching the "Father of the Pride"--what a funny show! I love the characters!

Reading today? I'm in the middle of the Peter Robinson series of murder mysteries. Started off in my teens with Agatha Christie, of course, and have read widely in other kinds of books--e.g. science fiction, travel, novels, serious non-fiction, best sellers, cereal boxes. etc.! I remember being very frustrated at not being able to read cereal boxes when I was 3yrs. old and also some early school readers which I'd go out and buy with my spending money!
Historic memories--what are yours? Of course, 9/11 is now part of our psyches and I have various other historical ones--the assassination of JFK and Martin Luther King. The end of WW11, the Blitz, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I am giving my age away! I am proud of my age! I am now 69yrs. young!
Do you know any neologisms? You can usually find them in the press.
When I get a bit more organized I will post some pictures and try to do stuff like Alan does!

Hi mom, I'm glad you like your blog. That sandwich sounds gross! It's too bad your "historic" memories are all negative ones. Surely some good things happened too!

As much as I like french fries and bread, I don't think I would like this sandwich. Not enough english blood in me I guess. :)

Neat Blog, Carol! I look forward to reading more.
I remember the explosion of the Shuttle Columbia, that's my historical memory.
Lots of love!!!

Hello Mrs.O! Congrats on the blog:)
One of my nostaglic memories is going to the NO rally in Montreal against Quebec seperating from Canada in 1995. I was looking at pictures of me taken there the other day.
Of course being a historian allows many nostaglic moments to claim as my own!!

WooHoo, mom's got a blog. That sandwich is yummy by the way. My girls know it as a chip sandwich. I still eat them once in awhile. Historical events, eh? Mine would be 1992. The year the Toronto Blue Jays won the world series. We showed them yanks. To make it even sweeter, we won it again the following year. LOL.

Welcome to "blogville" mom.

Love ya, Alan.

Eh, I guess my historic events in my head are somewhat negative too. I remember September 11th, the Challenger explosion, and a positive one, the day the Berlin wall came down too. I remember thinking how great that was. The people in Germany were celebrating in the streets.

That's right Guin! I just spent 8 weeks in Germany and the day I left Germany the wall came down. Back then we didn't have the internet yet, so I was glued to the TV to catch all the News.
It was crazy!
