Here is our youngest daughter--just born!!
I did a post yesterday and accidentally lost it. Here goes another try!

In 1983, we went on a fabulous working trip (for Roy) and a pleasure trip for the girls and myself. This pic was taken in Tokyo where we were honoured guests at a banquet put on by Uniden and this lovely little geisha was overwhelmed with Guin's blonde hair!

Here at last, is a more adult Ginny, now transforming to our present day Guin!
This was, I believe, the Snowball dance at the High School.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, DEAREST GIRL, AND MANY MORE !!

BELATED HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Well. Happy New Year everyone! I can't seem to download any pics so I will do a short written blog instead!

I know this is very behind! It is now February. I have just got over pneumonia and it ook all the stuffing out of me. Roy was also sick with bronchitis so we were both pretty miserable! One of my finger nails got infected so eventually they had to take it off! What a riot! I refuse to let things get me down! (But I can swear a lot right now!!)

We have had the most wicked cold weather for over one month straight. It is supposed to break in a few days. The wind chills have been from -30 to -40 below, incredible! We dress up in layers when we go out and only go out when we have to!

I will try and get the photo errors sorted out when I next contact Guin.

BEST NEWS!! Guin and Allen got engaged on New Year's Eve! He proposed to her at Alan's bonfire! They have been together for 12 years!

Another GREAT NEWS! Sarah and Christian also got engaged at Christmas! They have been together for five years now, I think. Sarah is our granddaughter--Sally's daughter. It must be in the air! Sarah is also expecting a baby in June but I know Guin is not going that route!!

Well, this is a short blog as my brain tires easily these days.

I will do more soon!

Love Mom, grandma, etc. xoxoxox :-)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE!

TashaandCallumonbeach%21.jpg
Here is a very special greeting from Tasha (Natasha) and Callum our great niece and nephew. They are Gawain and Becky's two children and Gawain is presently stationed in Australia with the S.B.S.--in the Marines! Fancy just going outside and having a beach for Christmas! Gawain says he misses the snow though!!

On with the blog!
ChristmasbuffetDec.jpg

This is part of our buffet on the 23rd Dec. It has become a tradition to have this buffet on that day with our family and friends! It is a great pot-luck supper and everyone contributes a dish. After supper we all wait for "Santa" to arrive and he hands out little presents to all. The kids especially love this part! (So do the adults and the cameras are flashing all over!)

HAPPY 36TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!

royandcarolanniversary.jpg

Here, another year rolls around and yesterday was our 36th wedding anniversary!

Although this picture was taken a couple of years ago we haven't changed a lot! At least, I thinks so!

We went to the Riverview Lodge for supper--a tradition--as that was where we had our wedding reception.

the day we got married it was 27 below zero Fahrenheit--35 below C. We flew to Toronot and it was just zero F. and then the next day we flew to Barbados--our first visit to the tropics and it was 87 F !!!
We just got hooked on that gorgeous climate!

I was given away by Uncle Albin and Sally was my matron-of-honour. I will dig out the photo of the family which shows th boys in steps and stairs!

Sorry I haven't been blogging recently. I had been fighting off an infected finger nail and was on intra-
venous antibiotics 24 hrs. a day for 10 days. Now I have just finished the oral antibiotics but as my finger is still healing it is still hard to type!

I will do a catch ip blog shortly.

Guin and Allen are flying home for Christmas so it will be lovely to see them again!

Got to go now!
Love Mom, etc.

Melly with baby Ava are in Dryden for Christmas --down from Winnipeg and C.J. is home from university--yeah!

It is wonderful to have the whole famiy home!

P.S.Love again! xoxox

GOODBYE,DEAREST MARIE.

MarieinOttawain-Beryl'sgard.jpg
Last night, my dearest sister-in-law, Marie, passed away in her sleep. It was a blessing for her at this time as the last year she has been in a wheelchair with a broken hip. She also had Alzheimer's for the last few years, Nevertheless, she lived to the ripe old age of 93 yrs. and had a very full and happy life before her illness.
In our family, we will all remember her wicked little jokes and mimicking of people. The last time I saw her, at her 80th birthday in Ottawa, she recited a really funnyy poem about a burglar who climbed throught a window. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her, both relatives and friends.
Josh'sbirthdyandMarie.jpg
Here is another delightful photo of Marie at Josh's birthday with lirrle Steph looking on and Margot presenting the cake to the birthday boy!

As I have been behind in my blogging I must sincerely apologize! Sally our oldest daughter had her 48th birthday on September 27th!! My goodness, how time flies when we are all having fun! David, our oldest grandson, also had his birthday on September 28th. He is now 27 yrs. old, I think I am right.
Here is a pic of Sally down in Gaspe where she lives. Shelby took the photo last year when she went for a trip for the month of September.
SallyinGaspeoncoast.jpg
Another tall Woody!!
Our granddaughter, Sarah gave us the HAPPY NEWS that she is expecting a baby in May and she and her fiance Christian are very excited about it. They were planning on a little one and have been together for quite awhile so I am sure it will work out well!
Here is a pic of Cary on his birthday--sorry goofed it up the first time!
carybirhdayandshelby.jpg
There are too many birthdays in our family!!!

It is now cool and the gorgeous summer weather we had this year has come to an end. It was truly beautiful--hardly any bugs, no army worms (Tent caterpillars), ardly any mosquitoes!!! Double wow!
As our dock is broken it made swimming in the lake more difficult. I can't go in the water yet as I still have my leg ulcer. It is so frustraating!

Our nephew, Gawain, is now working in Australia! He is in the British Marines in the S.B.S. the Special Boat Service--the commandoes who do the underwater "dirty tricks"!! He dives using a rebreather so as not to show any scuba bubbles to the enemy!! His family is witth him--his wife Becky, and their children Callum their son and Tasha their daughter. We have a standing invitation to go over for a visit! Just wait until I am better I will be over like a shot!! When he was younger he came and stayed with us and attended Grade 7 at Pinewood school. He learned to love the outdoors and learned to ski and canoe while he was here!

Our nephew Joel and his wife Sarah have just bought a plane!! It is a bright yellow Beechcraft 4 seater with a red stripe down the side. He is a qualified pilot and Sarah almost has her wings too!!

Guin and Allen are still working down in Toronto and really enjoy their jobs. In December they are going to move and rent a townhouse and some of the rent can go towards a house or condo purchase later if they want to. They still have their cat Cyan!!

Shelby now has a job at Safeway's and is very pleased about this change in her life!

The boys are all well. Alan had just finished going through the misery of working out a separation with Lori his wife. She is living with her boy friend. Cary and Brad still work at Shaw Cable and going great guns!
THE GRAND CHAMPION, BRAD---he got 2 gold medals in the Canadian National Windsurfing Competetion--incredible!!!
Cheryl, Cary's wife, just got a promotion and is happy about that!
Margot is now running her own business with the Flowere Forever and the trees. Her business is world wide and she is working all hours!

We have our cat Molly. We got her at the animal shelter and she is lots of company, but what a fat cat!
She love to play with her "tent" --a folded up piece of paper which she hides inside! She also love to flop on our bed while we read at night!

Well, time to get supper, so goodbye all. Say a little goodbye to "Auntie" as she was known by everyone. She was always so kind to me right from the very beginning.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY. CARY!

caryschoolpic11yrsold-.jpg

Well, my how you have grown! You are now well and truly handsome with your bushy salt and pepper beard (just like a young pirate!)your mischievous brown eyes and wicked grin!
I remember the day you were born. It was just frying up at the hospital, no air-conditioning in those days and it was in the 90's!! Everyone was dying with the heat! In those days they kept the mothers and babies in for a week before they could go home--I was glad to finally get home and let Sally and Alan greet their new brother!
Here are a couple of old pics for your memory files!
caryatbeachyoung.jpg

You were playing in the water at Sandy Beach trying to catch little tadpoles! (August 1968, age 6yrs.)

caryonhorsewithshelbybirthd.jpg
This was another birthday pic, you must have been about 10 yrs.old as Shelby looks to be about one and a half years old. We treated you to a horseback ride out at the farm for the afternoon. Greg MacKinnon is in the background. You all had a ball!

Here this next pic is of the grandkids taken a few years ago! Your kids Melly and C.J. are in this one!

As you can see Madi is only a little baby and Jeremy has not yet put in an appearcanve!

ONE BLAZING HOT SUMMER!

carolandthermometer.jpg
Although the temperature showing is a reflection of the one on the deck, it was still over 30 that day with a very high humidity!
The foresr fire situarion has been wild. There is a blaze over 1000 hectares by Vermilion Bay and still burning out of control. Lightning is now the main cause of fires as all camp fires have been banned from the Manitoba border to Thunder Bay, in other word, the whole of Northwestern Ontario! There is no prospect of relief in sight and everyone is doing all they can to survive the heat. At first, we had all our windows wide open but then the heat got too much and we had to turn on the air-conditioning. Luckily we have a heat pump, so we can get reverse cooling ffom the lake--like a refigerator cooling our house. I'd rather have all the windows open though. Today is not bad, only 29 and all the windows are open again!
megansgrad.jpg
Another highlight for this year was the graduation of Megan from Grade 8! She was as proud as a peacock! Here is another picture of Megan and her sisters, Amanda and Madison.
megansgradsisters.jpg

Amanda graduated from High School this year too! One Very Big Day!! She has now finished school for this year and will be deciding what to do with her future. I didn't get any pics of Amanda as the crowd was too big but I would imagine Alan will be posting a lot of them!
mybirthdaymeandroy.jpg
July was my birthday and on July 6th I was 71 yrs. old whoopee!!
Here is the old girl complete with wrinkles!!

Guin now has a new job and she managed to get 2 days off two weekends ago before her job started. Here's a few pics of her very brief visit!
guinandgrapefruit.jpg

We went to Earl's Court, a new little patio area on the corner of King and Whyte--very nicely done!

Guin sat on the wall, there is a waterfall running over the rocks there.
guinandcarolatearlscourt.jpg

Both of us had the "tourist" pics taken too!
guinearlscourt.jpg
guinandroyatearlscourt.jpg
the next afternoon was a gloriously windy day. I got a ride with Guin and we went to Johnson's Beach. It was just great! The waves were almost 3 ft. high (1M.) and the wind was so full of oxygem I felt reborn!
We bumped into Cary, Cheryl Jeremy, Amanda and Mike who were all sunning themselves and swiimming and playing like great big seals in the water!!

Beach babies!
carycherylandfamilyonbeach.jpg

One last little beach boy!

Well. I finally did a post! I feel bad about neglecting this for so long! The summer has just whizzed by! I will post again very soon, I promise!!

Just loving the freedom of being able to use your little muscles--you were only 3 months old in this photo--what a strong little girl!

SPRING IS ALMOST HERE,SHELBY SHOVELS!

ShelbyshovellingApril1,2006.jpg
This is a sure sign that spring is on the way--Shelby is shovelling the snow off our deck! She did half of the deck and then did more a few days later. Roy finished it off so now it is drying off. Yeah!

I have been suffering the ill effects of a really bad blood blister! I got one on Feb.15th and then got another one 10days ago--bloody, bleedin', bloomin' blinkin' blood blisters! The nurse and Roy have been changing the gauze and using antibiotic cream and i'm on antibiotics as the skin broke open. That's enough of that!

I've just finished my Swedish embroidery runner--at last! I am starting another smaller piece now. Here are some pics of "Trees" as it is called. It is done in pastels-variegated wool.
finishedproducthappyme.jpg
This pic below is a close up of the middle part of "Trees"--a reflection of the upper part Then I designed the edges with another pattern.

Well, that is all the pics--I am so proud!!
I'm starting a cushion now--a bit less ambitious!

Here are a couple of pics of an old friend of mine--Midge Scott. She is now 84 and we used to golf regularly together. She had to stop last year as she has Parkinson's disease and the trembling in her arms was making it difficult to swing the club! I admire her tenacity trying such a sport when she had such a handicap! I have some good older friends who set such good examples!
MidgeMarch2006.jpg
MidgeandCarolKupper's.jpg
The two pics above were taken at Kupper's when we took Midge for lunch. A nice day out! We used the flowers off the table to add some colour to our photo!! Ha! Ha!

Well, 2005 had a few more pics to put on my blog! Alfred and Garra gave us some from last summer so here they are!
GroupJuly2005.jpg
GuinandAllenJuly2005.jpg
JoelandSarahJuly2005.jpg
ShelbyJuly2005.jpg
RoyandCarolJuly2005.jpg
Well, most of those pics were taken at Alf's birthday over at Alfred and Garra's house. My birthday is on July 6th and his is on July 7th so I never forget!
The group pic was taken by Jiana, Alfred and Garra's second oldest daughter. Ed is beaming as he knows there is going to be cake! Little Braeden was around 2 yrs old when that photo was taken. Guin and Allen were in Dryden for a visit and Joel and Sarah were down for a visit too. Joel is Alfred and Garra's son and Sarah is his wife.

REUNIONS! BIRTHDAYS! OLD FRIENDS! MEMORIES!

SylviainhotelroomMarch112006.jpg
Well, this is going to be a full blog as I haven't posted for a couple of weeks!
First of all, Roy and I went to Thunder Bay. He had to renew his passport and we also had a reunion with a very old friend of mine from Teachers' College Days--Sylvia Beach. We've known Sylvia since 1969 and as we were both born in England and were in the same class in the College we hit ir off right away! We even went on a couple of trips to the Caribbean together, once to St. Kitts--a week in our March break and once to St. Lucia--Sally came on this trip too
Sylvia is now 88yrs. old and is still going strong! She is the pianist in two bands and they play regularly at dances. What a good example for me and everyone!
We stayed at the Valhalla Inn, a very nice hotel near the airport. It had 2 restaurantss, an informal one called Timbers and a very nice one called the Nordic Dining Room. There was the Nordic Canadian Cross Country Ski championships going on and there were happy ,rosy-cheeked skiers in the Timbers informal dining room. We ate our breakfasts and lunches there and one supper. When Sylvia met us on Friday we ate in the Nordic dining room--what a treat! Our meal started with an "amuse bouche" a little sampling from the chef. It was a slice of cucumber with fresh tuna and chopped sauteed mushrooms--yummy! We all had juice as I always get too full if I have soup and an entree and dessert!! Roy had Conish Game Hen , roasted with orange glaze, Sylvia had pork tenderloin medallions stacked in a little tower! I had some orange roughy fish wrapped in bok choy leaves and flavoured with Asian spices and served on basmati rice--delicious! Then we all pigged out and had dessert! Sylvia had macadamia nut ice cream, Roy had a sinfully delicious chocolate cheesecake and I had orange walnut creme brulee--it was awesome!!
The weather was really wet for the skiiing and the day we left on the bus, there was lightning and thunder!! This was in March!! We sure have had a mild winter on the whole!

Here are a couple of other pics from our trip!
RoyandSylviaMarch112006.jpg
Roy and Sylvia in the lobby before supper.

Sylvia and Caol--two old buddies!

NordicdiningSylviaandRoy.jpg
Sylvia and Roy in the Nordic Dining Room before supper.
RoyseafoodstewMarch2006.jpg
Here, Roy is eating some seafood stew with mussels, scallops, cod and crab. Taste of stuff we cannot get in Dryden!
When we were in St. Lucia we rented an old white van which we christened "Bertha Breadbox"!! She had a coconut under one seat to support the back seat and we had lots of adventures in old Bertha!
We hope Sylvia will have many more productive years ahead of her!

Now for the next section of my blog!
MADISON'S BIRTHDAY!! Happy 8th birthday, Madi!!

REMEMBERING!

J3intheairagain!.jpg

This blog is a variety of stuff! First of all, a photo of our old J-3! It was sold last year--boo!hoo! to a guy who has completely refurbished it. It is now in its original Piper colous as it came from the factory. It looks like a brand new bird!! Here are a few more pics.
j3inhanger.jpg
The J-3 is sitting in the hanger at Nestor Falls where all the work was done on it.

J3greatbird!.jpg
Here is the J-3 again.

J3readyfortakeoff.jpg

The old J-3 used to be red and white so it seems strange at first to see this Snoopy tyoe plane flying around! We are glad she now has a new owner who loves her! Alas, finances and healthe stopped both Alfred and Roy carrying on. They owned the plane 50/50.

I learned to fly in a Citabria and also a Super Cub which has more power than a J-3 and also has flaps. The day I soloed the Super Cub was one of the highlights of my whole life! I remember getting home and I just had to write a poem about it! I was 3 ft. of the ground for the rest of the day! Life experiences make us what we are for sure!
Time for a lunch break!!
I also had a nap!
GrandmagrandpaOrvisShelbyan.jpg
This is a pic from 1975! Guin is just a baby, Shelby is 3 yrs. old and Grandma and Grandpa Orvis are sitting on our old couch when we lived at Philip Street. Shelby looks a lot like her Grandma Orvis--I saw an old photo of her and thought it was Shelby!
Grandma Orvis's name was Deborah Marion Orvis--Dora for short and Roy's Dad's name was Leslie Alfred Orvis. Guin looks just like Roy now she is older but she has lots of hair!!
Swedishembroideryclass.jpg
This is a pic I have been trying to put on my blog!! It shows a bunch if us at the Go Getters Centre doing Swedish embroidery and other crafts. We do this every Wednesday and it keeps us out of mischiefF The class is followed by a lovely home made lunch oi soup, sandwiches, cake and tea or coffee. This pic shows Garra in the green sweater and I am in the purple sweater on the left.
GuinandWraith.jpg
An old pic from the archives1 Guin and Wraith, Bill and Leone's granddaughter, are fooling around!
Wraith used to learn all the dances that we learned by correspondence and phone calls from her Grandma as she used to live in Winnipeg. She would then join us for the dance recitals we used to have! Leone used to do all the choreography for those productions. We had so much fun and worked our little dancer hearts out! Guin used to take lessons and we'd both go down to the basement at Hansson's where the dance studio was. Leone had mirrors on the wall and a barre on the wall for our warmups. I started dancing with Leone in 1972, just after I had Shelby--to try and lose some weight! It didn't work but my legs got strong! When I was pregnant with Guin I danced up until 2 weeks before she was born--she had little dancer's leg muscles when she was born and used to kick me to pieces after the class! Those were the days! After the recital we always had a wild party as we'd all be high from performing and we'd have quite a bit to drink!!!
Sadly those days are over, but again, they are part of me and I never regret taking those wonderful dance classes!
Here is an old pic of Leone.
BillandLeone70's.jpg
Now, very sadly . Leone has Allzheiner's and is just a shadow of her former self. She and Bill come over for coffee and we pop over to their place for a cuppa and a natter!
They used to have a "raft" built on pontoons and we'd all go out to Good Lake and go fishing and have a BarBQ on the raft--lots of fun!

Well, I sure blew the photo of Grandma and Grandpa Orvis with the girls!
3generations.jpg
Let's hope that turns out!!
Hooray! It did!
Well. I have to go it's supper time! will post some more tomorrow!!
love and hugs ! xoxoxo

CATCH UP BLOGGING!

Crocusandcandlelight.jpg
Well, It's been so busy the last two weeks that my poor blog has been neglected!
I have some new pics too and will fill you in on my adventures!
I'm going once a week to the Go Getters centre to learn Swedish Embroidery. It can be used to create afghans, wall hanging, runners, cushions, etc. The design I'm working on is called "Sherwood Forest" and I chose a pastel variegated wool to do it in. The actual pattern will be a reflection of the trees I have completed so far plus some extra designs to balance it. When it's finished I'll take a pic! I started it in November but it's coming along a lot faster now as I get the hang of it!

This is a close up of my Sherwood Forest design--just a small part of it. It will look good when done!

Break for lunch!!

We are getting so many birds at our feeder it's just like a movie show!! The feeder is hanging just outside our kitchen dining area window. Here they come! The most prevalent species are the chickadees and lately both pine and evening grosbeaks. Pine grosbeaks have beautiful red breasts and some red on theid wings and black and white striped wings. Evening grosbeaks are usually yellowey beige on their breasts and have darker wings. We have little nuthatches with their yellow breasts and which often hang upside down to feed! Redpolls are other visitors with their little red caps. We h ave sparrows and pine siskins too. We are very lucky to have such built in entertainment1 Our cat,Molly, thinks so as well! Not for her any TV shows--she has her own!
Here is a pic of the birds and also of Molly.

Mollygoescamping.jpg
This is Molly's "tent"! She loves to crawl under this piece of folded up paper and either lays inside it or just hangs out and pretends she's camping!
Mollyallpooedout!.jpg
Now she is all pooed out from her trip!

Download file
I hope this pic of Marie will turn out on my blog. It was taken when we lived on Philip Street in the 70's. Back in the good old days!

Here's another pic that Margot got me to scan for her blog--see her blog fot her entry. They won a competition --the library was running one --how you met your partner! Roy let her know about it so she sent in her entry. Way to go!!
BradandMargotStlucia.jpg
Well, that is all the pics--I'll check them and then get on with the written part of my blog!

Catch up news on stupid ulcer!
We went up to Winnipeg to see the venous specialist again. He has changed the type of dressing to a drier type using a medicated Bactigras gauze over it plus gauze dressings and tape. I then developed a blood blister under my big toe when we got home--honest to Pete! so now that is all padded up1 I am really fighting this but at times I growl a lot!! I find it hard to walk right now and have orders to keep my leg up as much as possible.

Well, just checked the site and some of the pics didn't turn out!
I'll try again--hang on!
GoGetterssewingclass.jpg
swedishembroideryGarraandme.jpg
Let's hope these two pics worked! they were taken at the Go Getters centre by Carolyn Stratford, a retired teacher from Albert St. school. and we were all busy working away! We have the class from 9am to 11:30am and then there is a great lunch--soup, home meade, sandwiches and cake for only $5! Great for all us pensioners!

Lat weekend we had Cary, Cheryl and Thomas over for supper and I tried a recipe for "Bean Stuff"!
Even Cary, the ultimate critic liked it! I made a salad too with poppyseed dressing and spinach and mandarin orange segments, it was good! For dessert as a treat I made home made meringues, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. We all pigged out--after all, it was weekend!
swedishembroideryGarraandme.jpg
Hopefully this finally made it! Garra and I are busy sewing at the class!
No I guess it didn't!
back to the blog!

HISTORY TIME!

2ndpicRoyhist.soc.Jan.jpg
Well. Roy was invited by the Dryden Historical Society to give a talk about the beginning of the cable TV system in Dryden. He did a super job and the people who attended, anout 30 in all, gave him a big hand after! He, together with his partner, Phil Johnson, started the system in 1954. It was one of the very first ones in Canada!. He went into details about how the system was built--running miles of cable in all weather conditions and also against a lot of opposition from government bodies at times. Later when the satellites started broadcasting signals for TV, again Dryden Cable was definitely a pioneer. Roy and 3 other Canadians and 9 American satellite dealers went to Sri Lanka in 1983 and installed 1 dish at the University of Colombo and 1 at the home of Arthur C. Clarke. He is a very famous scientist and author. He wrote 2001, A Space Odyssey. I went on that trip too as did Shelby and Guin who were 11 and 8 yrs. old at the time. We had to stop off in India and the girls were horrified at the utter poverty in that country. It was a case of total culture shock.
Arthur C. Clarke wrote a paper in 1945 describing how satellites could be launched into space and used to broadcast signals for communications. He is known as the "Father of Satellite TV". The geo-
stationary orbit around the Earth is known as the Clarke belt.
What an experience that trip was! They had an enormous banquet in Colombo, Sri Lanka and also
some typical Sri Lankan dancing by men and women. We even saw some whirling dirvishes! The men dance and spin around so quickly that their feet eventually come off the ground!! At the banquet Arthur C.Clarke was following Dad around and saying, "Now try some of that, don't eat that!"
I made a big photo album and wrote all bout our trip--this was in the days of old cameras e.g. non digital!!
When Phil retired in 1985, I took over as the office manager and one of our biggest tasks was to put all our old book ledgers on to computer. It took weeks and weeks of long hours!

What else has been going on since my last post?
Last week we had Josh, Steph, Jeremy and also Megan over for a sleepover. Brad and Margot had gone down to Lac Milles Lacs in Minnesota for a kiting competition. The weather was good--a bit on the cold side.
The kids Roy and I had pizza on Friday and rented some movies. On Saturday I cooked them some chicken drumsticks, baked spuds and salad! They all staked their claims to the various beds and pro-
crastinated until bedtime! We all had pancakes the next morning--this is a sleepover tradition! Then we had a game of dominoes! This was a new experience for Steph and Jeremy!
Jeremyglasses!.jpg
Jeremy found a pair of my old glasses and said that he was "Grandpa Woody"!! He looked so funny wandering around the house squinting his nose and trying to see! He said the furniture was all moving!

Other pics from the last week!

Garrabirthday2006.jpg
Two pics of Garra's birthday! We were all invited for cake on Saturday--yum! She loved the top we bought her.
GarraHappyBirthday2006!.jpg
RoyHistoricalSoc.jpg
Well, now Roy has had the last word that is the last pic of him!!

If you look at the pic of Dominic on the group that Alan has sent everyone, Callum is standing with a red towel around his waisr (He is Gawain's son). Dominic's two boys are called Lynley and Theo. His wife's name is Jude. I met them all on my last quick trip to England when Ian died.
Gawain's wife's name is Becky--she's so beautiful! Tasha looks as though she is taking after her mother!
Callum resembles Josh quite a bit--amazing! Gawain still looks the same except he has now lost all his hair! It was getting very sparse when I saw him but now I think he has shaved it all off--just like Roy (Dad) !!
I've lost touch with Moya since Sally died. Her two daughters are called Lara (15 when last seen) and Zoe (12). Lara had a tongue stud and a diamond tooth! She was in a hairdressing school. Zoe still has her very gruff voice! She went out with Guin once when she was over in England. They got in the store--Zoe was about 5 or 6 and she said in a loud voice to Guin--"Auntie Ginny--I've got no knickers on!!!" Guin said, "That's nice!"

Well, now our Federal Election is over we can see what new messes the new government can get the country into!! Who'd want to be a politician anyway!! Enuff'said!!

Went to my exercise classs last Tuesday and pulled my outside quad muscle--some heat and rest seems to have settled it down so it should be OK for tomorrow's class!

We had Alan and the girls for supper yesterday so today we have leftovers!!

This coming Sunday Shelby and I leave for Winnipeg for our venous specialist check up. He's the one that is keeping an eye on the ulcers! I'm fed up with being sore!! last summer was just gorgeous and I couldn't swim in the lake at all because of my stupid legs!! grrrrr!!

Quit complaining you old doddery fool!! Ha! Ha!

One has to keep one's sense of humour!!

Here's a recipe that Gawain requested for:

MICROWAVE BROWNIES.

You can cook them in a regular oven, they just take longer.

Grease an 8" glass square baking pan and set aside.

3/4 cup unsifted flour
1 cup of sugar
7 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
3/4 teaspoon of salt
2/3 cup butter of margerine at room temperature
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of dark corn syrup
...............................................
Sift together dry ingreds and add remaining ingreds. Beat until smooth
Pour batter into the prepared baking dish
Heat uncovered in microwave oven for 6 to 8 minutes. (6 mins. is usually OK)
Test for doneness with a toothpick, but don't overcook or it will harden as it cools.
Allow to cool slightly and cut into squares for serving.
Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream on each serving.
Yummy and easy!

I had mentioned that we had gone to Denise Andersen's funeral. Denny was the mother of "Bubba" an old friend of Brad's. They used to work in the bush togetjer and Bubba's Dad had a herd of buffalo which Brad used to help feed when he was young. Check with Brad for info! Also, Mrs. Andersen's husband, Ernie, used to work at the Lands and Forests with Algie when we first came to Dryden.
There were some nice words on Denny's little funeral programme which stated:
"Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest serice, love, sacrifice and courage."
St. Francis of Assisi

Well. my nurse just came to change the dressings on my legs. so now time is fleeing!
I want to do a little bit of my Swedish embroidery which I'm ;earning at the Go Getters centre, so I'll close for now!
There are a lot of pine and evening grosbeaks on our bird feeder right now! They are quite big birds and eat lots of bird seed--the black niger variety. The pine grosbeaks look like little parrots and are a lovely red-breasted bird with black and white markings on their wings. Free entertainment for our cat Molly and ourselves!
Take care everyone until the next post!
love Mom xoxoxo Grandma xoxoxo Carol xoxoxox Yorkshire Lass xoxoxo cas xoxoxo G.G. etc. xo!!

An appropriate photo to end the blog pics with, as it is now only a few days ro the Federal Election!
This was taken in the Legion Hall when Trudeau was passing through Dryden on the train. His wife, Margaret and two of his boys came too. It was at the height of "Trudeaumania"!! I asked him if I could get a photo of him for my kids and was surprised when he graciously agreed! A moment of history!

Here is a recipe I tried last night. A great muffin recipe!

ORANGE MUFFINS

i orange with peel, cut up into 8 pieces.
orange juice 1/2 cup
remove seeds from orange and combine orange and juice in blender. I would imagine a food processor would work too.

Add 1/2 cup chopped dates
1 egg
1/2 cup butter or margerine

Blend. Pour into medium size bowl

Mix:
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tspn. baking powder
1 tspn. baking soda

Pour over top of orange mixture. Stir to combine.
Fill greased muffin tins 3/4 full.
Bake at 400 C for 20 minutes
Remove from pans after 5 mins. standing time.
Makes 12 large or 16 medium muffins.

Very tasty!

MORE 2005 IN RETROSPECT!

lupinsandflowers.jpg
Well, here goes a second post for 2005! It was a very eventful year, lots of happy things and some sad things too. In other words, a typical life pattern.
After Guin and Allen left for Toronto, we had to get back to our usual lives! Check out Brad's blog for all his windsurfing activities--what a busy guy he was last year! Alan started remodelling his place in the fall and it's just awesome now! He's going to do the girls' rooms next and will probably keep you all up to date on his blog. Young Cary went to university in September--the Iniversity of Ontario in Oshawa. he also has a blog site too. He's studying I.T. information technology.
Shelby saved up for almost a year and in September she flew down to Montreal. Sally met her and then she spent the month of September in Gaspe visiting Sally, Sarah, David and also saw Jean-Luc again. She also went whale watching--saw a pod of blue whales in the bay and one of them breached--its flukes were very plain. I'll try and borrow Shelby's pics and scan some of them for my blog.
May 4th we had our opening golf banquet
Dragon boat race practices started getting ready for the July 1st finals.
May 22nd was C.J.'s birthday--now he is 18 yrs. old! When he was born he weighed 7lb.11oz. and was 20" long! Cary and Cheryl had a BarBQ for him plus cake!!
Here's a few pics for that period.
StephcakeApril2005.jpg
It was Steph's birthday in April and we all enjoyed Margot's special German cheesecake! She was as proud as punch on her special day!
aprilroybirthday.jpg
It was also Roy's birthday in April so we had a nice BarBQ for him even though it was a cold day!
MayAlandgirls.jpg
MayBradandMargot.jpg
MayCaryandCheryl.jpg
Maycousiins!.jpg
MayWoodies.jpg
The pics above were from May!
On June 16, it was Thomas's 15th birthday! Another BarBQ with yummy cakes!!
The Ham Radio Soc. had a pot luck supper at Barclay Hall on June 11th which was well attended!

JunC.j.jpg
JuneCarygrad.jpg
June brought a very special day! Cary graduated from High School--everyone was so proud. It was a long ceremony at the Arena and then all the students had grad celebrations!
dragonboatracesJuly1st2005.jpg
I forget to post this on the blog!

Now for July!
July 1st was our holiday of course, Canada Day! Guin came up from Toronto both for it and also for my birthday on July 6th. We had the party on the 4th as Guin had to go back to TO.This year I was 70!!
Seven decades of adventures! Time to write a book!We had a lovely BarBq and also cake galore--Shelby made her cake and Roy got one too! On July 7th it was Alf's birthday so another BarBQ!
Steph did an introductory scuba course on July 19th and passed with flying colours--she's a real water baby!
scubaSteph.jpg
Sadly, in July, Frank Harrison died--my friend Margie's husband. He had fought a valiant battle with cancer. Bob Mitchell also died. Wanda amd Bob were a wonderful couple. Bob used to teach at the High School.
On July 25th group golf lessons started, so I signed up for them. We all learned that we would never be the next female Tiger Woods--darn it!! The lessons were great and I can hardly wait until next year to try out the new stuff! Also to try out my new driver!!

On August 4th Ed, Jiana and little Braeden came for a visit so we went over to Garra's for lunch.
On Aug.13 there was a BarBQ over at Alan's for C..J. and Cary as they were leaving for Toronto to settle Cary in for university. They were all able to stay at Guin's and Allen's--our new Toronto place of residence if we go for a visit!!
On Aug. 27th I went with a group of women to Winnipeg to see the musical Mamma Mia! It was a short and sweet trip--great loud music--Abba tunes!

Sept. -fish fry at Alf's
4th supper at Cary and Chery's--very nice!
Sept. 17th was Margot's birthday--yummy cake!
** During this period my computer monitor had gone on the fritz so I was unable to do any blogs!!
Boo! Hoo! All I could do were emails!! It was so frustrating!!
Anyway, on Christmas Day 2005, I got a wonderful new monitor so now I am catching up on my stuff!
We had our golf wind up banquet on Sept. 22st and then our fall fitness classes started.
Shelby went down to Gaspe this month as I had mentioned.
On Sept. 27th Sally was 47 yrs. old!!
We had the Handrafters Market this month--lots of lovely crafts.
Oct. 1st we had the Luncheon of Hope, our Breast Cancer support Group's annual lunch.
On Oct. 3rd Matt Dusk performed at the Auditorium--he was a crooner in the style of Frank Sinatra.
We have been using the library a lot since we retired. We used to spend a lot on books and magazines and when we started to track it we both said "Whoah! This is too much" so our library cards now work overtime!
On Oct 8th a new Shoppers Drug Mart opened in Dryden. It is where the old Saan store used to be.
On Oct. 22nd Jeremy had his 6th birthday!! His Spiderman presents ruled or also anything with flames!
On Oct. 26th I started Spanish classes and these went on until December. Our teacher, Dermel is from Honduras and rattles off Spanish to the class who sit with open mouths and blank brains!!
Oct. 9th was Thanksgiving Day and we had a wonderful turkey supper! There were 15 of us pigging our around the table! sorry there are no pics.
A sad day on Oct. 28th as Garra;s father, Sherwood, died. It's been a very rough time for Alfred and Garra for the last few years.
November came in with a couple of cold weeks and then it turned mild again.
Swedish Embroidery classes started at the Go Getters seniors centre, so I now go every Wednesday and try my hand at a new skill!
On Nov. 6th Olive Moline invited me to a very nice lunch. Stu and Blanche were there too and a couple of other friends.
Nov. 8th saw "Lucien" a comedien at the auditoriu-he was quite funny and played a French Canadian guy on holiday in Florida meeting up with his old buddies!
Nov. 12th of course, is big Al's birthday! We all went for cake to Cheryl's on Nov. 11th as Alan had to work on the 12th.
On Nov. 20th we all had cake at Margot's as Josh's birthday--his 15th--had arrived! How time flies!
Nov. 25th was the Santa Claus parads--a very cold night1 We all went over ro Cary and Cheryl's on Duke St.--a good vantage point!
On Dec. 2nd we went to the Mexican buffet at Penny's for Lunch. Good Mexican food! Dermel and Penny put on a good spread!
Dec. 8th was Shelby's 34th birthday!!We all had cake at Alan's as he wanted us to see all his great work decorating!! Moya--in England--also has a birthday on the same day!
From now on the pics are from Christmas 2005 so we are all caught up!!
On Dec. 12th Shelby and I had to go to Winnioeg for a check up with the venous specialist and we arranged to pick up Melly and go shopping in Polo Park Mall. We now met our dear little Great Granddaughter, Ava Michelle, for the first time! She's a real sweety and has captured all our hearts!

Here are some pics from spring on up to summer of last year.

2005 REMINISCING!

jan.jpg
Hello everyone! Here are some blog entries and pics from last year. I'll start with the first quarter up until about April for starters! On Jan.1 we had a LAN party at our house and Allen made a pile of his famous pizzas! Delicious! On Jan.16th we had some belated cake at Alan's at 2pm. We again took part in the annual bird count.
I went to one of the Red Hat Ladies' lunches and also the Retired Teachers' Assocn. have a monthly lunch meeting.
On Jan. 23rd there was a Manitoba Theatre Centre play at the auditorium which was well attended. We anjoy the plays more than some of the musical selections!
On Feb.7th the Thunder Bay Symphony came to Dryden but there was also some other music which was not orchestral so we were a bit disappointed.
There was a day trip to Winnipeg to see "Miss Saigon" and it was very well done! I had already seen it in London so was able to make a comparison. The music is awesome!
On Mar. 8th Lennie Gallant was at the Dryden auditorium.
Our winter viewing of LOST and Survivor continues!!
On Mar. 13th we had cake at Alan's for Madi's birthday--how she is growing!
Mar. 27th we celebrated Easter Sunday with a family dinner --yum!
Sun. april 10th we had a big family BarBQ for Roy, his birthday is on the 11th--77yrs. old this year!!
Another big birthday on April 29th for Guin who was 30 yrs. old this year!!
Let's see if the pics turn out so far!

Guin and allen have moved back to the city and after a few weeks of job hunting and camping out at Allen's paremts, they found great jobs and moved into their own condo--yeah!
Chapter Two of last year will continue tomorrow as I am tired.

MELLY IS NOW A MOM!

melly.jpg
Well, what exciting news when we heard that Melly has had a baby girl!
Her name is Ava Michelle and she weighed 8lb.3oz. and was born at 6:03 p.m. on August 9th.
So now everyone has to move up a notch--I now become Great Grandma--yoo!hoo! Alll the family become Great Aunts and Great Uncles and C.J. is now an uncle!! The cousins will now have a second cousin!! This is becoming hard to track!
I know we all hope Melly will be happy and able to make a life for herself and her baby. I don't know if she has a steady boy friend or not.
Shelby and I are going to Winnipeg on Aug. 22nd for our regular check-ups and hope to find out Melly's address from Bob and Daisy (Patti's parents) as we see them today at the BarBQ for Cary (birthday) and C.J. (going away to university)

Life sure has some twists and turns but this year they are happier then usual!

guinevere and Allen (see link on Guin's blog) are sure enjoying life in the fast lane-except for the smog!

Last Tuesday was the Senior Women's Open golf tournament--18 holes! It just about did me in! Thankfully it had cooled off a bit from the day before but we drank lots of water, wore sunhats and slapped on sunscreen! I came in 4th in the 4th flight and won $10!! Wow! I was so surprised! They had a nice buffet lunch afterwards.

Shelby is looking forward to her trip to visit Sally in September and has been saving up every penny!!

Scientists have discovered previously unknown species living deep under the Arctic ice. They burrowed through ice ranging from 1 M to 20 M thick . They discovered new species of jellfish, bristle worms, squid, octopus and two species of sand flea-like crustaceans. The voyage was part of a 10 year mission aiming to catalogue life undersea the world oceans. See ice world Hope the link works!

Did anyone check out my link to Krispy Kreme doughnuts the other week!

News! A new planet larger than Pluto has been reported. It was discovered using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at the Palomar Observatory. Its location is 97 times the distance between the sun and Earth.
Amazing!

A very good classic movie is the 1973 "Papillon" with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen. Watch it if you've never seen it! It's based on Henri Charriere's memoirs of the prison on Devil's Island in French Guyane. The conditions were very harrowing

Time for a lunch break and a rest! Temp. today is around 20 and humid.
love to all! Mom xoxo Grandma xoxoxo Great Grandma xoxo I think this is too long so you can just call me G.G.!!! (As in the govenor general--ha!ha!)

P.S. the link to Ice World looks as though it works OK just click on the census part and have a look!

BELATED BIRTHDAY CAKE PIC!

yummycakesforThomas.jpg

This is a pic of Thomas's cakes on his birthday. This is the only pic I can upload right now! My disc drive is frozen--full and will not let me do any more iphotos. I've tried deleteing some files but need some tec help from Guin when she's back from Ottawa. I was surprised when I was able to do the cake pic otherwise this blog would have been a text blog only!

I've been out golfing and practising with my new driver! It works so well! I had a lesson on chipping last Tuesday and learned quite a bit. The seniors' tourny is on Tuesday August 9th and althought I have only a snowball's chance of doing anything at all, at least I'm being positive and entering it!
It's been a great summer for playing! I want to get a game in with the boys and also some of the grandkids!

Well, yesterday we went to Harry Dzeoba's 80th birthday party at the Go Getters senior Centre. Dad knows Harry from the Flying Club and there was a good crowd there. Guess who was there? Yvette, an old friend of mine! She left Dryden in 1969 and I taught her swimming at the old outdoor pool. Her daughter, Lynn, was there too and her two of her sons. One was Wayne and the other son was from her second marriage. Lynn remembers you, Sally and all the boys and said to say hello! She is now a very pretty girl with big brown eyes. She said she still has a photo of you, Sally, and you were pushing your doll carriage! It was nice to see them again.
We caught up on our new lives and what we'd done since we'd last seen each other and we gave big hugs for old times sake!

It is still warm although we had a thunderstorm last night which kept me awake a lot!

Shelby was over for supper last night and we went grocery shopping after going to the tea.

"Deadwood" the new season, will start in the fall--I can hardly wait to see all the conniving, swearing characters again! Al Swearengen is an absolute villain! The setting was once a ranch owned by Gene Autry, an old western movie star. Now additional sets are built there and Mr. Wu's pigs are waiting for more dead bodies to gorge on!! The series creator is David Milch.
For info on Deadwood itself, check out DeadwoodIt's really interesting to see a picture of Robin Weigert, who plays Calamity Jane, and is a really gorgeous woman!! (check out the "Cast visits Deadwood"

hope the link works! love Carol. Grandma xoxoxo

SCUBA TUESDAY!

SculptureOne.jpg
ScubaTwo.jpg
ScubaThree.jpg
ScubaFour.jpg
ScubaFive.jpg
ScubaSix.jpg

Well. today was the day for the Bond girl, Stephanie, to learn a bit of scuba diving!
There was a special course for 10 to 12 year olds and 5 girls and 6 boys had signed up.
They split the kids up into two groups and the boys went and did the snorkelling first and the girls did the scuba part first.

They learned some of the basics--how to use the P.F.D.'s Personal Floatation Devices, and get all the air out in order to descend, and then they learned about the regulators and how to breathe with them. The next step was to put on all the equipment and swim around the shallow end and then after a brief regroup, they all went into THE BLUE! Down they descended into the 12ft deep end and swam around there and then up again.
After Steph had done the scuba part then they went and did the snorkel part. They had to retrieve stuff off the bottom, clear their masks and all the usual snorkel stuff.

She came out of the change rooms after and said to Roy and me "It's just so exciting! I'm not nervous now that I know all the parts and what to do! I really want to learn more! When can we have another family reunion!"
Looks like we'll have to save up for a couple of years and go on another Caribbean trip, or even Mexico--the water there is very clear to and both Guin and I went scuba diving there. It's also fairly cheap in comparison to other place.
We went to the Chip Box after to reinforce the carb loss!!
That was the main part of our dayt!
Hope you enjoy the post!
Love Mom, Carol. etc xoxoxo :-)

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!

CarolandRoyatLodge.jpg
Royescortforsupper2005.jpg

I have been having mega problems with my hard drive space and also I was unable to access my Blog site! I am now about at least 2 weeks behind in my posts! have patience everyone! I will catch up in the next few days!

Here's a few pics of my actual birthday on July 6th--Roy and I went out for supper to our favurite place for us as that's where we had our wedding reception back in 1970. We had a very nice supper--I tried the lamb chops demi-glace with mint jelly and baked potato and fresh vegetables. Roy had his favourite Chicken Kiev! We both pigged out on Rolo cake for dessert!

The weather here has been incredibly hot and humid --temperature in the high 30's with a Humidex over 40. The U.V. reading has been over 8 or even 9 at times.so we have to wear lots of sunscreen.
I was out golfing this morning trying out my new Big Berth Driver--special birthday present from the family! Wow1 What an awesome club ! I'm glad I can try to swing it!
Details of birthday and pics will follow!

I'm having some problems with my copying and pasting, so be patient! I'll check my blog so far!!

GRADUATION! C.J.'S BIG DAY!!

gradforCaryJun24.jpg
C.J.jpg
CherylproudmotherC.J.jpgproudgrandparentsandC.J.jpgTwoCary'saftergradbyArena.jpg

Just uploaded some pics so I hope they all showed up!
It was a beautiful day for Cary;s grad.-Sunny, quite windy and cooler than the day before--around 24C. The day before would have been unbearable--temp of 34, high humidity and a threat of rain.

We felt so proud to see our grandson graduate as his is the first grad (of the grandkids) that we've been to. He is off to university in the fall--the Univerisity of Ontario--a brand new one in Oshawa and he will be doing a I.T. Information Techology doing game designing! What a brand new world we live in! The students of today have so many more choices to make and their world is changing so rapidly.
The whole family wishes him luck!! :-)

I have got behind in my blogging! It's been a really busy week, so I have to do some catch up posts for Thomas's birthday and also Roy's Father;s Day BarBQ! Be patient!

I have to take a station break to plant some flowers that have been wilting in little pots for over a week, so meanwhile enjoy these pics and then I'll do some more later!

See ya! love to all xoxoxoxo Mom, grandma, Carol, etc. xoxoxo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS! 15 years old!

ThomasJ-K94-95.jpg
Thomasdrawingyoungandfamily.jpg
ThomaswiththeDufferin.jpg

I hope my uploading worked for Thomas's little photo gallery! If I missed one I will try and do it after!

We are having a beautiful, sunny warm day today and Alan just phoned and said the forecast for the next 5 days is very warm!!

On Saturday Cary and Cheryl are having a BarBQ for their growing son! He is a tall, rangy, gangling 15 yrs.old as of today! Both he and C.J. are computer whizzes!

Yesterday, I went golfing--the weather was just great--after a week of rain it needed to be! My game was just terrible but it's so nice to get out in the fresh air and play!

Today my nurse was late--they come to change the leg dressings twice a week. I was then late for my hair appt, oh, well! At least I look half decent now!

Alan is coming tomorrow to cut the grass--it grows so quickly in the warm weather. He's going to cut Guin's and Allen's too after.

Two days ago, I saw a big brown rabbit or maybe it was a hare--it had very long ears!

I'm getting tired now and will have to quit. Maybe tomorrow will bring more of my blogging!
Love Mom, Carol, Cas, Grandma. etc. xoxoxoxoxo :-)
P.S. the photo of Thomas with Santa was taken in Dec. 1994 in the Dufferin Mall, and the school pic was taken for his 1994-1995 Kindergarten class.
I missed uploading two more pics so I will do them tomorrow!
Sorry, everyone!! xoxoxo

NANA AND FISH AND GRANDMA ORVIS LAUGHING!

NananadfishandGrandmaOrvis.jpg

I found this pic among my messes! It was taken in Aaron Park--we'd gone down for the day and had a picnic while my Mom was over from England to attend my graduation from Lakehead University--got my B.Arts that year (1977) majoring in English, minor in Psychology.
The boys had caught a fish and asked my Mom to hold it--horrors!! She gamely did but handed it back very quickly! It was a HOT May day--can you believe it! She was over for about a month and even went a ride in the J-3! She kissed the earth when they landed--we all laughed--she was a very funny person! My Mom was born on March 6th 1904 and died in January 1982 of breast cancer.
Grandma Orvis is sitting in the background and they got along really well. We'd all gone to England when Shelby was 8 months old and stayed at my Mom's in Brighton. Grandma Orvis stayed with her cousin later on near the Epsom Forest just northeast of London. She had corresponded with her cousin for years and found it wonderful that she could see her at last!

Today is another cloudy cool day. We went to the R.T.O (retired teachers' lunch) earlier today and had a nice spread of cold cuts!

Today is another cloudy cool day. We went to the R.T.O (retired teachers' lunch) earlier today and had a nice spread of cold cuts!
Forecast for tomorrow is more showers--I'll have mushrooms growing between my toes soon!

Alan finished off the little patio on the south east side of the house so it is now totally screened in. It will be wonderful to sit out there when the wearher warms up! He did a super job!

Cary has copied "ripped" a bunch of DVD's so now I will be able to wallow in movies! He even found some golden oldies--SOYLENT GREEN, THE OMEGA MAN, and the Carnival and Deadwood series. It's wonderful having all my techie kids!!

Did you read about the B-15 A iceberg? It is the world's largest--the size of Jamaica--that broke off Antarctica in March 2000. It has drifted along the southern continent's coast, blocking currents and leading to a build-up of sea ice that earlier this year decimated local penguin colonies deprived of open water for feeding. Poor old penguins. I don't know if the situation has changed lately.

Ditch the Pop!! That is the message in a magazine I read recently. A small pop contains the equivalent of 10 lumps of sugar. A small "Slurpee" has 23 teaspoons of sugar and an "X-Treme Gulp" has 44 teaspoons!! If you are thirsty--drink lots of water! Aren't those sugar quantities incredible!!

Mosquito bites? Most bites are harmless but some bites can transmit serious diseases. for instance, malaria in certain parts of the world. West Nile virus can also be transmitted. Most people have no symptoms but others can get flu like symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches and fatigue.
Protect yourself by wearing light coloured clothing--long sleeved shirt, long pants and a hat if outside when mosqitoes are most active --at dusk and dawn. Choose an insect repellant that contains DEET
or other approved ingredients. Eliminate standing water from around your house, drain water from flower pots, wading pools, old tires and change water in bird baths and pet dishes twice a week or more.
Wasp and Bee Stings--if a honeybee stings you, scratch out the stinger--with its attached venom gland with your finger nail. DO NOT pull out the stinger as that forces more venom into your skin.
Seek immediate medical attention if you are stung in the mouth or nose as swelling may block airways. Also seek emergency care if the following symptoms are present as these could indicate a severe allergic reaction.
* Large areas of swelling *Abnormal breathing *Tightness in throat or chest * Dizziness *Hives
*Fainting * Nausea of vomiting * Persistent pain or swelling
If you have a severe allergy to wasp or bee stings ask your doctor about obtaining an Epi-Pen or Ana-Kit to carry with you at all times.
Tick bites!
Ticks can't run so they wait for a suitable animal or human to hop a ride on to!
They often wait in long grass, weeds or the siding of buildings. Deer can carry ticks which cause Lyme disease. Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants .check your hair and body after outdoor activities. If you see a tick, get some tweezers, not fingers, and carefully remove it.

Well, that is my Nurse Killem lesson for the day! Ha! Ha!

Talk to you later! Roy just got in with some groceries and is chopping up some apricots to stew in the microwave oven. They are super to eat with ice cream!
Love Mom xoxoxox grandma xoxoxo Carol xoxoxo Yorkshire Lass xoxoxo :-)

HOT OFF THE PRESS!

ThreeWoodygirls.jpg
Alan just handed me this pic of his girls, so this is literally hot of the press!
Aren't they growing up into two beautiful young women and one young girl! I feel so proud of them, as does Alan!! Amanda was born on Dec. 31, 1988, Megan born on May 15, 1992 and little Madi was born on March 9, 1998. Soon school will be out--they can hardly wait! Amanda is trying to get a job and would like to get her driver's licence shortly! Alan, with Brad's help, is going to fix up the red car we had bought for them--it will be the perfect for Amanda. Right now it has a flat tire!

Today is another nasty cold wet day--yuk!

Last night Roy and I and Shelby went to the Amateur Radio Annual BarBQ at the Barclay Hall. It was spitting rain and lots of bugs, so we didn't sit outside for very long! It was a pot-luck supper so we all went home stuffed--as usual!

Alan came over half an hour ago and is working on the screens--finishing up the loose ends and scraping off the glue in the corners. It's looking so much better!

Well, did anyone watch "Dr.Who" this week? It was really unnerving and scary sinister! I know that Cary.Guin and Allen would all like it!

On July 2nd in Dryden, we are having the Dragon Boat Races! Awesome! If you are up in Dryden, Guin, you will be able to see them unless it conflicts with the windsurfing regatta!

Upcoming Events!
June 16th THOMAS will be 15 years old! We are going over to Cary and Cheryl's for their usual birthday BarBQ and Cake!
June 19th FATHER'S DAY! As long as the weather is OK we'll have a BarBQ for Roy and some cake!
I bought him a chair for his computer and a chair mat to go on the carpet so you can roll the chair around..he's going to love it as right now all he has is an el cheapo plastic chair which we use on the deck! I have asked the boys to chip in $20 to $30 if they can.
June 24 th is the Dryden High School Graduation! C.J. is very excited about it--last year oif High school! He is still waiting to hear about the university he want to go to.
June 25 th is our red Hat Ladies' Golf Tournament! (As long as it doesn't rain!) This should be really amusing seeing us all dressed up in our red hats and purple outfits and swinging a club! Ha! Ha!

Shelby has almost saved up all her money for her trip to visit her sister, Sally, who lives in Gaspe,Quebec. Sally is going to take her to see the whales and go to a boulangerie--a bake shop--and other little side trips. Sally will have finished her job with the Forillion Parcs at the end of August and doesn't start her school accounting course until October. Shelby wants to practice her French while she is down there--I'm sure it will come back to her once she hears it every day! She was always good at French and liked it too. She will be flying from Winnipeg to Montreal via Westjet and Sally is going to meet her there, Fun times in the city!

I've just signed little Steph up for an introduction to Scuba course! It's on in July and is just for 1 1/2 hrs, but it will give her a taste of it! It only cost $15 so it's very reasonable--it's for 10to12 year olds.
Steph is a little water baby and she is so excited about the course! When she is older I can see her and Josh wanting to do the whole thing!

It is now time for my afternoon legs up or I'll be in trouble!
Will be back later!
Love Mom,,grandma, Cas, Carol, etc. xoxoxo :-)

HOME AGAIN FROM WINNIPEG!

Carol'snewhaircutJun.jpg

We arrived home late last night on the bus and boy, am I tired!

Both Shelby and I saw Dr. Guzman, the vascular specialist and he is pleased with the gradual healing of the ulcers. He took some more photos to keep as a record--I said I guess he has an album of gruesome pics! He said he did! Shelby's leg wound is still quite large but is getting shallower. Mine is now scoring 2 out of 3! One has pretty well healed and the main one is getting shallower and the one on my right leg is doing very well. The infection that broke out 2 weeks ago has completely healed up. I am now back to wearing the zinc impegrated bandages with the silver dressing right on the ulcer and then the elastic bandages for the compression on the legs--they call this the "Duke's Boots"!

After we'd checked out of the hotel and taken our bags to the bus depot and put them in a locker, we were then free to SHOP!! We boogied off to Polo Park and spent 5 hrs. there and grabbed a last minute supper snack and then a taxi back to the bus depot. We were only just in time! We got home at 11:20 p.m. groan!

I bought some cute stuff! A floral skirt at Tall Girl with a white top with some flowers on to go with it. And then I bought 2 prs. of sandals for the summer--one really pretty pair from Clark's--beige with pink and green circles on them--slip-ons, and a pair of more rugged sandals for walking in. We went to Northern Reflections and got some stuff on sale--capri pants, shorts and T-shirts--on sale 25% off!
They were all in bright colours! I bought Roy some Laura Secord chocs.!! Anyway, we had a successful shop! I am now too tired to post any more so will post some late!
Love Mom,,Carol, etc. xoxoxoxoxo:-)

I am getting ready to leave for Winnipeg tomorrow so this is a very short post!

Today I got my summer hair cut and it looks just great! I will post a pic when I get back.

REMEMBER WHEN!

FamilyJuly1975.jpg
Family photos again! This was taken in July 1975 at Alfred and Garra's house--it was Alf's birthday I believe. Guin was just a 3 month old baby and Shelby was just 3 1/2 at the time--look at those long braids !Roy had his "Beethoven" long haired look of the 1970's! The boys all had their hair long--totally in fashion! However, their clothes would not be out of place today! Look at my jazzy polka dot halter top! They are all the rage today! Ha! Ha! Aren't memories wonderful!

Today has been another warm day but threatening rain and quite humid. Alan came over and cut the grass this morning, bless him! Little Jeremy was busy on his bike and hanging out with his uncle! Alan said the kids are no problem and tonight is Taco Night! The kids just love their Uncle Alan!

We went up to the hospital to visit Frank Harrison, Margie's husband. I have golfed with her a lot. Frank now has cancer of the jawbone and has just finished a session of radiation treatment in Winnipeg. He is also waiting for a hip replacement--and we complain about stuff! We wish him well in his battle for health.

I have been letting my hair air dry and you wouldn't believe how CURLY it is!! I am due for a hair trim tomorrow and I swung by Calypso to show Robert my curls! He couldn't believe it and thought it looked really funky! When he sees me tomorrow he says he will bear the curls in mind!! I will let you all know the outcome!

Well, June 24th will be the BIG DAY for C.J. as that is the day of his graduation! It's hard to believe that he will be finishing High School! Next year it will be Amanda's turn!

Megan has to have braces, so tomorrow Alan has to take her for her wax impressions and later on she has to go to Winnipeg for the braces to be fitted. Luckily, she can get everything else done in Dryden so no frequent visits to the city!

Does anyone watch "Dr. Who" ? It is on the C.B.C. every Tuesday night from 8 to 9 pm right after Coronation Street. It is just excellent and even more scary than the original as they are now able to incorporate all the special effects and computerized stuff! check it out if you like science fiction and especially if you can remember the Daleks and the telephone booth Time Machine!! Watch it--it's great!!

Apparently a really adventurous drive is to do the Dempster Highway in Canada. It is 734 km gravel road that starts from near Dawson city in the Yukon, heads north over three wild mountain ranges, two continental divides, five rivers and two time zones to Inuvik on the McKenzie Delta. You might run into the Porcupine Caribou herd that migrate on masse across the highway in the fall. Check it out! click here Yukon

Hope my link works! will check it out --now!
love from me xoxoxo

I've just been spending some time checking out the Yukon link--it is truly lovely! Watch the intro as it gives you a feel of the vastness of the land and how peaceful it is. I read somewhere that a lot of Japanese tourists go there in the winter to see the Northern Lights as they can't experience them at home. I think I would like to drive up there one day--maybe rent a camper or something.

If you like northern lands here is another link to explore which shows Iceland and some other areas--have fun! Safari Baffin Island hope the link works!
love from Mom etc. xoxoxo

I am becoming such a computer GEEK! YES !!! I can only say thank you to my family for bringing me into the 21st century--THANKS ALL OF YOU FAMILY!! Love and hugs Mom xoxoxo :-)

FAME AND FORTUNE AT LAST!

GuinandAllen.jpg

Well, yesterday was the BIG news as everyone knows! We are all very happy for the two latest family members taking rheir place on the road to fame and fortune!

Guin said they are trying to find an apartment on the Harbourfront if possible as they can then hop on the subway to get to work. Summer in the city! I'm sure all the members of our family will sooner or later wend their way down for a visit and bug them!

Today Alf and Garra returned from their trip so I suggested we go to Hong Kong House for supper and a D.Q.ice crream cone after, so that is exactly what we did!

Yesterday afternoon I played golf--terrible score --but what the heck! It was just gorgeous out, except for the mosquitoes!

Today was warm and humid again--25 degrees! Yes!

Too tired now to write any more--will blog again tomorrow!

Love Mom, Grandma, Carol, Cas, etc.!! :-)

ANOTHER MEMORY FOR THE BLOG!

Gawainjungle.jpg
I found the photo that Gawain had given me. He was working in the jungle with the D.E.A. and this was taken in Guatemala. They were dropped in under cover and had to live off the land--they had to trap iguanas and cook them for meat! Also, very limited extra rations and lots of bugs! He really enjoyed the jungle although he said they got absolutely filthy as the dirt camouflaged their skin as well as mud! It takes a special kind of person to be in the special forces! He is in the S.B.S. like the S.A.S. only they do stuff in the boats and underwater raids, etc!!

Later! Cary came over with C.J. who is taking his first driving lessons in the van around the roads in our area. He had also bought the DVD's of Deadwood for the last year--yeah!!!

Still later! Margot came over with Jeremy and Neo and planted the garden that Guin and Allen had made last year. It now is set to grow!

I made some home made biscuits for supper to go with some 2 day old stew leftovers!

Now Roy and I are going to watch the SARS movies which I taped last night--so T.T.F.N.!
love Mom, Grandma, Carol, Cas, etc!!!! :-)

MOLLY AND KITSU JUST HANGING OUT!

MollyandKitsuhangingout.jpg

I thought this was such a good time to catch the two puddy tats together! Kitsu is from Tokyo and her name means "Comfortable"! We used to wear ukatas in our hotel rooms which were like cotton house coats and you could just lounge around in them! They were very "kitsu"! we were in Tokyo in 1983

We are having another wet day--not again! Last Tuesday I managed to get in my first game of golf and it was great to be out in the fresh air wildly swinging my club and the ball going wherever!! I wear my brace to help with the hernia.

Yesterday and the day before, we went to TimberMax and Schmidt's Greenhouses--my favourite time of year! I LOVE flowers! Must be my British blood!! It is like going into a candy store as far as I am concerned--all the colours and perfumes! I bought 4 hanging baskets for the front--1 fuschia with its bell-like flowers and 2 gorgeos peach coloured hanging begonias. Also a mixed spring bouquet with pink, blues and mauves in it--yum!! Margot is going to come over tomorrow and help plant some stuff and do some general weeding and tidying up. She is so fast and so good at it! I can't even bend down to fasten my shoelaces so it's lovely having a talented daughter-in-law who will help her crockety old mother-in-law!!! :-) Alan said he will come over and cut the grass soon as we have a great crop of dandelions!

Major work this year will be to rebuild the swim dock. We are going to have a work party and BarBQ and sleepover if necessary!! We'll wait until the lake warms up a bit more!

We watched "White Noise" the other night and I kept on waiting to be scared!! It just didn't, to me, come across as a scary movie, I felt it was relying too much on electronic noise effects and a rather lame premise. I get scared by movies like "Alien", ""The Ring" and " "The Vanishing". What do you think??

Sylvia phone today, it was great to hear from her! She is now 86! We went to Teachers' College together from 1969 to 1970--the tail end of the 60's era!! It's great having a friend that you can pick up with at any time and carry on talking as thought it were yesterday!

This year is the 150th anniversary of David Livingstone's discovery of the 100metre high waterfall on the Zambezi River-now known as Victoria Falls. It must be awesome to see it!
Victoria Falls and Zambia Enjoy!

Time to view my blog!!
Well, here are some pics--I hope--from C.J.'s birthday so keep your fingers crossed!RoyandCarolMay22,2005.jpg

OUR YOUNG DAUGHTER'S ESCAPADES!

babyGuinescapingfromchair!.jpg

This is a very early pic of Guin! She was only about 3 months old--look at those long, skinny arms and legs and big feet! She had little muscles in her legs even just after she was born--it was so funny!
She used to absolutely hate the little baby seat--they were used then so the babies could see what was going on in their world and to give their mothers a chance to do a few chores! She preferred to be held though and walked around the house with a running commentary. This pic was taken in July,1975--hence the diaper only!! She could wriggle her way right out of the chair.I guess this was the first of Guin's escapades--she's certainly had a lot in her lifetime! I was going to post this on her birthday blog, but only just found the photo! I will post some more later but right now my stomach is growling!

Did you all watch LOST last night!! More mysteries developing for next season!
love to all Mom xoxoxox :-)

THE 18th BIRTHDAY WAS A BIG SUCCESS!!

Cary18thbirthday!May22,2005.jpg

Cary was just smiling so much this evening that I knew he was well and truly happy with his family around him! Cary made some super burgers and Cheryl made some great salads--Caesar, cole slaw amd spinach.pear and nut salad, We had angel food cake, cream, strawberries and fruit cocktail--yummy!

It was quite nice out but the rain was threatening to come soon, but at least we had a chance to sit outside.
Cary (Big) was showing us his set-up for copying the DVD covers so they look store bought!! He also has a big monitor, one of them was 19" I think.

I have just scanned some pics of a young Cary and will post them on my photo gallery tomorrow, now I am too tired!
Have to go and get my leg checked tomorrow a.m. at the hospital, so will report back for Blog duty later!!
I also downloaded more party pics on my iPhoto so will post them too!

Love to all!! Mom xoxoxGrandmaxoxoxoxo

HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY CARY, C.J.!!

Carypianogenius!.jpg
caryandthomas.jpg

Once upon a time and far,far away , there was a little baby boy born! His name was Cary John -born May 22nd at 4:57 a.m.He weighed 7 lb. 11 oz. and was 20" long. When Cary phoned me to tell us about Cary's birth and what he was going to be called, I said "Oh, I will call him C.J.!" So, Cary you can blame old Grandma for your nickname!

Today C.J. is 18 yrs. old, almost a magical age--his whole future stretches before him and he can make of it whatever he chooses to do. The whole family wishes him well and a glorious Happy Birthday!

We are all off to Cary and Cheryl's for the BarBQ tonight--yum! And cake too!! double yum!!

I have some more photos of young Cary and also a couple of Melly from the time they spent with us on Boxing Day at Ingall Drive and the heat went off and it was 40 below!!
I will put them on my photo gallery later today.

Well, time to do some chores--boring!!
See y'all at the BarBQ!

NEW GLASSES AND SUNBURN!

newglassesandsunburn!.jpg

Well, I finally needed a change in my prescription glasses so here they are! Plus my sunburn from yesterday! (Typical English complexion--fair skin and blue eyes--burns easily!! Also has freckles at times!)

Today has been a rainy day and tomorrow is C.J.'s 18th birthday! Time sure flies! He'll be going to university this fall!
Tomorrow I'll post some pics of Cary as he is now and as he was when younger

Did you know that the taxi drivers in London have to pass a test called "The Knowledge"?They have to memorize over 18,000 street names and routes and after a year they can take their test. So when you see those little black taxis in London, England. enjoy their company and knowledge! Not a bit like the taxi drivers in Winnipeg, although they are improving!

From the Post last week. What do you get when you cross a wildcat called the African servil with a domestic house cat? A Savannah--the new designer breed growing in popularity, but outlawed in New York Ciry. One 29yr.old financial analyst living in Greenwich village has two pet Savannahs who eat shrimp cocktails and steak frites.and sleep on Burberry beds. Savannahs, which can cost from U.S.$4,000 to $10,000 look like little leopard and can be intimidating. And in the jungle that is Manhattan they live on the lam, with owners hiding them from neighbours.New York Times.
I think that is so stupid to pay so much for a cat! What kind of snobs are their owners?!!

A new movie version has been made of The House of Wax. I saw the original in the early 50's and it was really scary as, if I remember correctly, it was in 3-D and we had to use the red and green stereo glasses. It has been classified as 18A so you kids need Grandma to accompany you! Ha! Ha! (Or other adult!)
More updates on next season's TV offerings. As well as our favourites LOST & SURVIVOR,The Amazing Race--2 more editions each. C.S.I. Crime Scene Investigation and CSI Miami and CSI New York, as well as Cold Case, Without a Trace, Cold Case and NCIS.

If anyone is going to Winnipeg this summer, from July 31st to August 13, 'FOLKLORAMA is held. Over 40 different cultures are represented and they each have paviliions, food, dancing, etc/Folklorama Winnipeg

A BEAUTIFUL SPRING DAY!

Mollyrelaxing!.jpg
Mollyinmychair!.jpg
Well, our cat is certainly very relaxed and becoming a homebody! We have a new little grooming brush so today she had a brushing!

Did you all watch CSI The Season Finale last night?! Wasn't it just awesome!!!!! I was biting my fingernails to the quick when he got buried alive! And then the ants came! And then they discovered the pressure points bombs that had to be defused somehow! And then there was the VERY gruesome dream of the post-mortem! Quentin Tarantino must never sleep at night for all the horrors he can serve up to his audience!!
CSI will be on again in the fall, as well as LOST and SURVIVOR--yeah!!
Today we went over to Bill and Leone's for coffee and sat on the deck--it was so warm, I got a bit sunburned! My first one!
Today I got my new glasses! I'll take a pic tomorrow or Sunday with them on. They look great and guess what--I can see better!!
There were some recipes in the Splenda box, so Roy said he wanted to try and make some shortbread-it uses rice flour and splenda--should be interesting!

a short break while I go and watch a TV Programme. Back soon xoxoxox

My start up disk is almost full! Help what shall I delete? S.O.S.!!! Shall I deleted old manuscrips or old pics in my picture files?

Love to all xoxox Mom xoxox

HELLO AGAIN TO ALL!

Redhatcontestmay2005.jpg
Bradyoungdays!.jpg

A brief post today as I've been feeling sick all day. The antibiotics did not agree with me in the quantity prescribed, so I threw up my breakfast and lunch--yuk!! Roy went and managed to speak to Dr.Dahmer and he's reduced the dose for now. I remember being on the Tetracycline before and the same thing happened--grr!

Did you all watch LOST ?!! Isn't it exciting!! Did you notice in the last scene, when the raft was leaving the island that in the background there was a crowd of people who had not yet been in this year's episodes? I'll bet they will be the nucleus for next year's island people. I could be wrong!

It was nice and sunny this morning and then got cloudy and rained tonight. I did not golf today because of my leg. It's still painful,

The Chelsea Flower Show will be on in England from May 24 to May 28. This show is considered one of the best in the world. It is sponsored by the Royal Horticultural Society and includes a series of gardens
created by some of the world's leading designers, a pavilion filled with thousands of flowers including new varieties and educational exhibits. I would love to see it one day!
Check out the Flower show! Chelsea Flower Show
I hope this link worked!!

I'll close down for the night and read a bit!
love to everyone! Cheryl just phoned and they are having a BarBQ for C.J. on Sunday!

P.S. The pic of the Red Hatters was of the crazy hats contest and the woman in the middle won with her hat decorated like a cake!

Yeah! my link to the Flower show worked!! Margot, you would especially like this!!
Mom xoxoxo :-)

The photo of Brad was taken when he was about 7, I think--just look at that gorgeous lilac shirt with pointy collar! That was the style then and remember it was picture day!!!

Megans13birthday2005.jpg

Today is a beautiful sunny day! High of 18 C ! Yes, we can handle that!

I had to see the doc this morning and my leg is very painful. It has got another infection on the right inside and is just like a big boil draining--yuk ! I'm on mega anti-biotics until it clears up and have had my leg up all day.A time to get caught up on movies!! I hate having stuff like this happening!

I will check everyone's blogs and then go and watch TV again!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN!!

MeganStephbirthdayMay15.jpg

Well, we all celebrated Megan's 13th birthday with a BarBQ and cake over at Alan's. A happy time was had by all!! Alan made a batch of his awesome home-made french fries--the round ones--which we all scoffed until we were stuffed! We also had hamburgers, onion rings, hot dogs, salads, etc. and yummy cake with cream and strawberries and kiwi fruit on it!

Megan opened her presents and was happy to get some new clothes and money!!

It was pretty cool out so we all ate indoors.

I went to the Fort Frances luncheon and my leg really started to hurt on the way down. By the time I got home it was pretty bad, anyway, at about 11 pm we went up to emerg. just in case a blood clot had developed or maybe my bandage was just too tight!
They checked it out and the doctor said probably a vein had ruptured but it was not a deep vein, just a surface one, so it was not too bad. He, and one of the nurses thought maybe another abscess was developing under my skin as the area was very hot.He prescribed Keflex, an anti-biotic, and on Tuesday morning I see Dr. Dahmer at 8 a.m.

My Home Care nurse came this morning and was quite concerned as everything had been healing so well. Anyway, wish me luck with my stupid leg!! I spent the day resting and watching T.V.!
Now, Roy and I are going to watch "Survivor", all 3 episodes, as Brad had taped them for us.

Will be in touch tomorrow!
love Mom xoxoxo

RED HAT DAY TODAY!

CarolatRedHatLunch.jpg

I was down in Fort Frances at the Red Hat Ladies' Lunch today. Got a ride down with Diane Mason and two other women came too--Olga Hackman and Julie.

There were Red Hatters from afar! Fort Frances, International Falls, Atikokan, Dryden, Kenora and Thunder Bay! Total hungry women was about 270!

We had salad, pork cutlet with vegees. and roast potatoes, and then coffee and cake decorated with white red and purple icing--the red Hat colours!!

Entertainment was a chamber orchestra, a Highland piper, some young Highland dancers, an Irish dancer (very good). Then the Highland dancers did a sword dance.

After that they had a contest for the craziest hat. They had just told our group to decorate our hats, but not in a crazy fashion. The woman that won had her hat decorated like a big iced yelloe cake with strawberries stuck on it!! It really looked funny!

We came straight home as we were all too tired to go shopping, and Olga had fallen recently in her sauna and really hurt her hip and arm.

I just had onion rings and some fries for supper as Roy and Shelby had A&W Mozza burgers.

Well, this is just a short post to let you know I am still alive, but tired!!

Tomorrow we are going to Alan's for Megan's birthday so will see you all there family!!

Love Mom xoxox :-)

Margot made one of her wonderful cheesecakes and then we had this yummy treat!! We were all stuffed!

Just finished decorating my Red Hat Ladies hat as we have a meeting down in Fort frances tomorrow--I'm getting a ride with Diane Mason. Should be a lot of fun!

Today have to get my hair done at 1 P.M. so will talk later!

THE BIRTHDAY BOY WAS HAPPY!

BradnewshirtMay122005.jpg

Just got back from Brad and Margot's and had cake and watched "Survivor"!--we all had to get our fix!
I figured Caryn would be voted off after her outburst--who will be next? I hope Jenn, she is so lazy and uses people in her little schemes. I think the whole series is almost pre-ordained and the producers know who will be the last 2 or 3 people left. Brad says the same too!
We really enjoyed last night's "Lost"!!

Molly, our cat, was very haughty with us for leaving her alone Again! We had to go out for an appointment for my nails this morning and then we had lunch at Penny's and went to the library after and bought home about 20lbs. of books!!

GUIN AND BIG BROTHERS!

Guinandbrothersntitled-1.jpg

"Let me hold the baby!" One more photo of Guin before I start putting the rest on my Photo Gallery.
As the youngest she certainly received her fair share of love and hugs from everyone and became a very happy baby with a sunny disposition! Brad was a lot like that as I thought he was going to be my last kid and I was very relaxed bringing him up. Sally was the experimental model and I made many mistakes but she always had lots of love! All my kids had lots of love and still do!! xoxox

Today is cool again but tomorrow is supposed to be 18 C ! Yeah! Roll on summer! I bet Brad and Margot will go windsurfing!
Alan is in Kenora today as he has made an appointment with a lawyer who is supposed to be very good in divorce cases and the child custody stuff. Alan deserves the best and we told him we are behind him 100% and will do what we can to help.

I am excited! Tomorrow is our golf banquet which means golf is just around the corner! This year, despite my hernia, I plan of going golfing as much as I can to make up for when I couldn't! My friend, Midge phoned yesterday and told me she wouldn't be golfing this year. Her health is not as good as it was--she has Parkinson's, She has been very active and goes cross country skiing in the winter. She is
83 years old! Good for her!

Our satellite signals were off for a few days as Bell had sent out new Smart Cards and they all had to be reprogrammed. Anyway, our signals came back on last night so now I can watch "Survivor" and "Lost"!

Roy has his hearing aid appointment this afternoon as the aids came in. He has a 2 month trial period to see how they are, so here's hoping!

BOY OK AFTER WAX BATH
Niagara Falls Ont. An 18 month old boy who toppled head first into a vat of hot wax at a Niagara Falls tourist attraction came out unscathed.
Believe it or not, it happened at the Ripley’s Museum as a Toronto woman was taking her eight children through the Wax Zone.
She was lined up with tourists having glove like casts made of their hands by dunking them in a vat of hot wax.
While tending the rest of the brood, the boy accidentally pushed off the lid and plunged headfirst into the thick brew.
Fortunately, his horrified mother plucked him out within seconds. He emerged layered with a skin of pale white wax.
(One lucky kid!My comment!)

I shall now check my blog site to see if my copy/paste worked and also the photos came out OK!
Back soon!

Guin, you were asking about the answer to the last Logic Puzzle--4B the Spelling Contest. I gave the solution on March 25th--the blog headed 2 bears playing together! Hope you got some of the answers!
I'll post another one for you soon.

MORE BABY PICS.!

Guinbabyhosp.jpg
AH! SUNDAY! Time to relax and catch up on odds and ends like a pile of stuff for my blog!

I have more photos to scan of Guin when she was younger so I have a job there and will get my Photo Gallery going A.S.A.P.

It is still snowing here! Yuk! After having that glorious warm week we all feel let down!

Here's one for the kids--did you know that the Platypus--that strange creature which is only found in Australia, is very unique. It is covered in fur, has a duck's bill, and webbed feet. Its tail is similar to that of a beaver, which is used to store fat for when food is scarce. It's a mammal yet it lays eggs! When a platypus was first taken to Britain in the 1700's people thought someone had sown a duck's bill onto a mammal's body as a practical joke (from the Free Press) The male platypus has poisonous spurs on his hind legs, making it the world's only venomous furred creature!

There are plans to raise a mysterious Japanese submarine. The I-52 was sunk in the Atlantic in 1944 , The expedition to raise it will be in Nov. or May 2006. It was laden with gold--2 tons and 2 tons of opium. They also wonder if it contains a secret offer of peace. There are no web sites given in the article but I think Dad was researching it the other day.

Reader's Digest has just published a revised edition of "The Most Scenic drives in America".

Besides the famous site at Drumheller well known for its fossil bones--where Alan and girls visited last summer--there is also a marine fossil museum in Morden, Manitoba. It has the largest collection of marine fossils in Canada. A 13 metre long mosaasaur was unearthed in 1974. Its skull measured over 1.5 metres in length! Might be worth a side trip if you go to Manitoba!

Time for my lunch! Back later!! xoxoxo

THE CAT CAME BACK!

catrelaxing!.jpg

Here is our cat relaxing on our bed! What a scare she gave us on Saturday night! We couldn't find her at all and Roy finally had a horrible feeling she might have fallen down a drain hole in the workshop,
We decided to wait until morning in case she showed up. At 4 a.m. there came a little miaow and she was back! We were so happy! Guess where she had gone--up into the ceiling! She'd climbed onto the old maple china cabinet at the bottom of the basement stairs and from there it was just a short jump up1 That is her sleeping place right now or hidey hole, whatever! Roy just has to string some wire to the TV for the receiver and then he can close in the ceiling. Boy--what a scare!

Shelby and I got back late on Saturday and the specialist said my ulcers are slowly healing and to carry on with the same dressings which will mean a twice weekly visit from Home Care. Anyway, I was happy that there seemed to be some improvement. Shelby's leg needs some Profor dressing again and she is also on antibiotics. We go back on June 6th together--worked out well! We always try and sneak in a bit of shopping!

I was bad this trip and did some shopping! I bought Megan's present, myself a beige purse for summer and a little red one for the Red Hat Ladies! I also bought a 2pce. floaty top and skirt for going out occasions--if ever!! ha!ha!

Would you believe it is SNOWING outside!! grrr! When we were in Winnipeg it did the same and the wind was just blowing the snow horizontally! I had to buy myself a sweater at Tall Girls--I needed it--not just an excuse to buy one!!

I'll do more Blog tomorrow as I'm still tired from the trip.

Lots of love to all and hugs where needed!! To everyone--goodnight!!

P.S. PLEASE grandkids! If you come over to play or watch TV and neither Grandpa or I are home--please CLEAN UP after yourselves!! We don't mind at all if you make yourselves at home but we don't have maid service at our house--just the two of us! Thanks a bunch kids--and come again so we can visit!! Love Grandma xoxoxoxo

P.P.S. I also bought 2 hats!! a red summer one--kind of pretend straw and a beigey turqoise blue one
Time for me to be spanked!! ha!ha!

OUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER!!

ournewcat!april232005.jpg

Well, yesterday and today we went down to the S.P.C.A. and looked at all the animals! Dad had seen a picture of "Tom" an older cat in the paper and really wanted to check him out. Anyway, yesterday we galloped down to the pound and perused! "Tom" was quite nice but not quite as friendly as we'd hoped. Three of the other cats were really friendly so we told them we'd talk it over and come back on Saturday to let them know.
Today we drove down, with Shelby of course, who was all excited! We finally decided on "Monti" who is about 7 or 8 yrs. old and is a female cat. She and another cat were found in an apartment in Sioux Lookout totally abandoned, no food, no water, no heat--how can people be so cruel? I hope they get punished somehow!
We think "Monti" is more of a male cat's name so we may change it--we'll see!
Right now she's hiding downstairs in the furnace room under some shelves after her trip in our car from the S.P.C.A. building. We have her cat dish, litter box, treats and a couple of toys already lined up for when she deigns to come and play with us!!

Tomorrow Shelby and I leave for Winnipeg for our check up and will be back Monday night so no Blogs tomorrow!

Wasn't it a rip off that "lost" was Again a repeat!! Why don't they show the whole series all at once and then reshow the whole series--I'm sure they woul get a huge audience by word-of-mouth.

Well, at least "Survivor" had a great story line! Who would have thought Jenu would leave of her own
volition? I guess she proved to herself that she WAS a survivor1

Cuppuccino's is now online, so we can check w.geocities.com/cuppuccino to check out their menu--good idea!
Well, supper is now ready so I shall have to say T.T.F.N.!

love Mom etc. xoxoxox :-)

WEATHER WATCH!!

hailstonesrainandthunderApril2005.jpg

We had a really big storm today--high winds, thunder, lightning and hail by the bucket! I was tempted to go outside and sweep up some of the hailstones! They were all up our driveway too--it looked just like winter again!

Later in the afternoon, I had to see the doctor and when we came out it felt tropical--warm breeze and humid air--yummy!

It might storm again tonight, in Winnipeg they had winds of over 100km per hour!

The power went off so we had to run around changing stuff.

Just a short post as I want to post some more photos.
See you later! xoxoxoxo

WEEKEND CATCHING UP!

snowmeltedinbushApril2005.jpg

Hi again all of you! The weather today was great and tomorrow is supposed to be 26!!!! Definitely shorts weather!
As you can see the ground is getting very dry and now there is a concern about bush fires.
If it does stay warm maybe the ice will go our sooner!

We were going to do our income tax today but got lazy and read the weekend papers!

We were over to Brad and Margot's on Thursday to watch "Survivor" and will repeat the visit next week!
Cuppuccino's are open again and have new owners. They used to make really good home made soup and bagels and wraps for lunch and of course, their great capuccino!

Ever heard of the Swiss Spaghett Harvest? In 1957 the BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil. Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanies this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in, and many called up wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. The this question the BBC diplomatically replied that they should place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best....(According to the www.museumofhoaxes.com this was the crream of the crop for April Fool's jokes!! hoax
I am not sure about doing the link correctly, but you have the web site!

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!

Spring Thaw--April 2005.jpg

Well, look at that! No snow on the ground! (Just a little bit in the bush still). Last week week was so warm--it went up to 19 and the forecast for tomorrow is 20--I can handle that! I can see the Woodies getting out their boards and sails as soon as the ice is off the lake!

Let's have a competition! WHEN DO YOU FORECAST THE ICE TO GO OFF THE LAKE THIS YEAR? Put your answer under Comments and we'll see who wins the prize as Best
Guesser!

It's been a busy week. Sunday, of course, was Roy's birthday BarBQ. Monday we had a R.T.O. lunch--retired teachers--out at Oxdrift Hall. Wednesday I went to the Dryden Brreast Cancer Support Group meeting as I hadn't been for awhile. There are plans afoot to build 4 Dragon Boats--Alvin Saville and the Rotarians are doing that--they are doing it as a fund raiser for the Cancer Soc. and hope to have the Dragon Boat races on the Wabigoon River towards the end of June. I would like to be one of the paddlers! There will be 10 people in each canoe with a drummer and a helmsman..It sounds really a great way to get people to pledge for. I will give you all more info as it becomes available!

On Thursday, we had a Red Hat Ladies' lunch at Ristorante Pizzeria, so we were all there with our bright head gear scoffing a great lunch!
On Friday Roy was fitted for a hearing aid--they poured a kind of squishy blue plastic into his ear and let it set for 10mins. It will take about 4 to 6 weeks for the hearing aids to arrive.

Last night, Friday, we went to see Ron Hynes at the Auditorium. He was quite good, lovely guitar playing. he is from Newfoundland and had a good repetoire of songs. He's won Juno awards, etc.

I have to take a station break and get my feet up again. They really ache if they are not elevated for a period. back later!
Love Mom, Grandma, Carol etc.

BIG BOY'S 77th BIRTHDAY!!

Roy's77thbirthdayandShelbycake.jpg

Well, although today is actually April 11th (double April fools ) for Roy! We had his party yesterday as all the kids are free on the weekend and it's always great when we have the family gatherings!
Shelby made the delicious cake in the photo--chocolate with whipped cream and strawberries! There were 18 of us at the birthday so we all enjoyed a large piece!

Cary BarBQ'd the steaks out on the deck--it was too cool to eat outside, but it didn't rain on our party!
I also made Chicken Nuggets and hot dogs for the kids of they wanted an alternate choice.(courtesy of M and M served with plum sauce. We also had shrimp and seafood sauce, baked potatoes, Garra's Taco Salad-yum! Margot's asparagus casserole--I love that! Alan's Fettucine Alfredo, cold punches, etc. Everything was so tasty!! I had bought one of those sweet seedless watermelons and we had loads os slices! It made a good little break before the cake!

Roy was the lucky recipient of many presents and was just beaming from ear-to-ear!

Well, tonight is my 'Fear Factor' night! I think it's kind of a silly show as the contestants have to do some crazy things sometimes--especially eating gross stuff! Ah well1 We all have our little failings!
My two favourites at this moment are 'LOST' and 'SURVIVOR', I think they are both great especially "LOST"!!

Well, I shall stop now, my legs ache if I leave them hanging down too much and the nurse came today and changed my dressings.

Take care everyone!

OUR GUARD CAT HAS GONE TO TORONTO!

CyanleavesDryden,boohoo.jpg

Well, I am now re-posting my messed up blog from yesterday, so let's see if the Cyan pic shows up this time!!

Today is going to be the one day early BarBQ for Roy--his birthday is actually on Monday April 11th and this year he will be 77 yrs. old! He sure looks good so we hope he will keep on doing well.
He went for a hearing test on Thursday and the result was the audiologist said he had a severe hearing loss and he was glad he didn't have a similar loss! Actually the audiologist was wearing a hearing aid, so I guess he knew what he was talking about! He was a very nice guy from Georgie and had a soft Southern accent. The next step is getting fitted for a hearing aid--a behind the ear type was recommended for him as having a larger range of sounds. He said to Roy to try to face people when he was talking to them and within 2 months he would be more able to lip read which would make his life easier with the aid too. Part of the cost is covered by the Assistive Devices Programme, some by our insurance plan and we have to pay the balance. We'll have to bite the bullet for that! I'm so glad that the ball is finally rolling--it is so frustrating to have to repeat stuff 2 or 3 times, and I don't like to shout!!!

Well, this is going to be a short post as I have to get ready for this afternoon!
Shelby made a cake yesterday so just has to decorate it with whipped cream and strawberries--yum!!
Love Mom xoxoxoxo :)

OUR GUARD CAT IS GONE NOW

This photo of Cyan was taken the morning when Guin and Allen left..Roy and I still expect her to come to the door when we come home! She is certainly a friendly little car, or should I say "Fat Cat"!!

It went up to 16 today--justy felt wonderful! The snow is rapidly melting but the ice is still very thick on the lake. Break up isn't usually until the first week in May.

Oh, I have screwed up my photo of Cyan --back to square one!!!
Carol
I have also screwed up a second try at blogging--it's time I had a rest!

SAD DAY TODAY! HUGS AND GOODBYES!

GuinandAllendepart-Apr.jpg

Today, Saturday April 2nd was the final loading day for Guin and Allen. The bikes went in and some last minute boxes.
Cyan was packed in her little blue cat holder and placed on the front seat of the truck. Five minutes later we saw this cat in the yard! Cyan!! She had undone the zipper on the top and sneaked out of the cat holder, jumped out of the window and came back into the house!! Who said she only has a brain the size of a peanut! She had to be bribed back with Cat Treats!

Margot came over the night beforre with Steph and Jeremy and she had packed a treat basket for them
for the trip with yummies in it!

We were all crying when the moment came to say goodbye as we wished Guin and Allen good fortune in the next chapter of their lives, whatever it may bring.

-----The phone rang---Guin phoned from Marathon. They had to travel really slowly as the U-Haul is not good on hills. In addition, they discovered that their bright headlights did not work, just the regular ones. They also have to re-start the vehicle with a screwdriver if they have to stop. They spent 3hrs. at a garage, but they couldn't fix it. You would think that the company would make sure their vehicles were in a more roadworthy condition.

Shelby is just leaving for home--she spends Satrurdays at our plce and has supper. The boys helped her move on Wednesday into her new apartment on King St. by the laundromat.

I saw the specialist and he is going to follow the same treatment that Shelby had for her leg ulcer. So right now I have dressings from my toes to my knees and elastic bandages wrapped on both legs! I feel like a mummy!! I believe that this will help with the healing. I also have to elevate my legs as often as possible, even at night. I've put a large cushion under the mattress to help with this.

DON'T FORGET! Daylight Savings Time starts at midnight!!

Well, I've been up since 6 AM so I'm ready to go to bed now!

Love and hugs from Mom xoxoxoxo

HAPPY EASTER 2005!

Margotflowergirlandcarol--easter2005.jpg

Margot brought us these lovely flowers for our Easter table--a breathe of Spring!

We had one of our wondrous family dinners with everyone bringing yummies!!

Guin cooked the turkey and made some home made rolls, Allen made an awesome cheesecake, Shelby made one of her famous chocolate cakes, Alan made Alfredo noodles, Cary and Cheryl made a pile of perogies, Margot made a tasty hamburger and mushroom casserole, Garra made her 7 layer salad. We also had the usual trimmings--non-stop food for our tummies!

It was really great to have everyone together for the last big supper before Guin and Allen move to Toronto. Josh, Megan and Steph played video games until midnight and then flopped! I made pancakes this morning as everyone gradually drifted into the kitchen!

We saw our first magpie this morning and also a whiskeyjack.

This afternoon we watched a rented movie, "Cellular". It was pretty good--lots of action and a tight plot. I recommend it!

The weather is warmer today, around 9 degrees and the snow is getting softer. I'm just waiting for some warm winds and rain!

Roy has been busy with his ham radio and has made quite a few contacts lately.

Alfred is giving me a ride to Winnipeg on Thursday to see the specialist. We're hoping to do the trip in one day as my appointment is at 1:30 p.m.

Well, time to get my feet up and have a little rest!

Please keep up the blogging!
love Mom, Gtandma, Carol, Cas, etc.!!! xoxoxoxox :)

Older photo and other stuff!

algiewoodworth21yrs.jpg

I thought you would like to see this old photo of Algie Woodworth, the grandfather of some of you kids on your Woody side! He was 21 yrs. old when this picture was taken and was guiding some tourists down Biscotasing Lake on the way to Thessalon near Sudbury, Ontario. You can see the family resemblance in the Woody chin! We were married for 12 yrs. before he died of pneumonia and I had my four little Woodies to take care of. Life was hard during that period.
I was lucky to find a new husband later on and now Roy and I have been married for 34yrs. and he just accepted all the extra little family that came with me! We had two extra girls--just to even out the score, as Sally says--3 boys to 3 girls!!

Now I am going to type a Logic puzzle as I haven't done one for a long time.
I will also be making a photo album like Brad has as I spent a long tims scanning old pics. on Sunday.
Allen is cooking supper tonight--some Thai noodles! Yum :)

NEW LOGIC PUZZLE--No. 4 B SPELLING CONTEST

There were five finalists in the city schools spelling contest this year. They competed until four of the five misspelled a word, and the fifth one was declared the winner. From the following statements , one of which is false, what is the first name and surname (Jennings, Knudson, North, Olsen or Salisbury) of each finalist; who missed what word; what was the order in which they finished the competition
1. North, who was not the one who misspelled "physiognomy", had not participated in a spelling contest before, He said he had not expected to do well.
2. "Vicissitude" was misspelled immediately after "bivouac" and immediately before "isthmus".
3. Eleanor was happy that her good friend Jennings was one of the two finalists in the contest.
4. Before Eric missspelled his word there were only two contestants left; he and Olsen had studied together in preparation for the contest.
5. Gordie, who lasted longer in the competition than Jennings was not the winner.
6. Knudson, who is not Helen, was the first to misspell a word.
7. Helen, Jennings and Olsen are neighbours.
8. Jennings told Lois that she could not sleep the night before the contest.

I hope you all have fun trying to solve this puzzle!
Got to sign off now! love from mom and grandma etc. :)

FOUR GENERATIONS !

fourgenerations.jpg
This is one of those real family pictures as it shows the four generations! My Mom, Sally --or Sarah as her name was on her birth certificate! Then I come next--Carol Anne otherwise known as Mom, Grandma and Cas! Next in line is our oldest daughter, Sally and last of all, her son, David. This photo was taken when we lived at Philip St. My Mom had flown over for her very first visit as I had got my B.A. degree and she was able to come for the graduation. She had no choice as we sent her a ticket! She was not too keen on flying at all! Sally happened to arrive for a flying visit so it was wonderful for us all to meet ap especially as it was the first time we saw David! He is now slightly bigger than the photo shows!!

As I have to leave for Winnipeg in the morning this is only a very short blog but I will be digging out some more photos to post for everyone to share!

Love and hugs to all my family!
P.S. Check out Guin's blog for some great pics of the kiting trip!

Shelby Hard at Work

shelbyshovelssnow.jpg
Well, here is one of our deck shovellers! Guin and Allen and also Alfred gave our deck a good clean off the other day! It sure needed it and the snow was getting really heavy--Guin said she wanted to jump onto the pile that we'd made after!

I made raspberry shortcake for supper--yum! I make it with the shortcake dough method not the cake way as some people do.

Last night we watched "Shaun of The Dead". It was just so funny! I recommend it if you feel like watching a funny vampire movie!

My ankles are sore today. The nurse just put some bactogras on the abscesses and gauze as she said the skin was starting to break down a bit. Hopefully, that should help until Monday when I see the doc.
brief break ........

RED HAT LADY AND SNOW WONDERLAND!

RedHatCarol.jpg
Today has been an interesting day!
First of all, we had a tasty breakfast at Kupper's for the R.T.O. ( The Retired Teachers' Association). Then home to change for the Red Hat Ladies' group for lunch at Penny's! As you can see me in all my red hat glory above!
After that the majority of the women went over to Patricia Gardens and sang for the seniors.Sang?!!.Anyway, we all had books with the words in for the songs We had to stand up at the front after and sing 4 songs facing them! What an experience! We were all kind of nervous, but to see the joy in their faces made it so worthwhile. Several of the seniors said they hoped we would come back again.
After I walked to the library where Roy was waiting for me --what really horrible weather! It was blowing and snowy and icy--very slippery to walk!
oodlesofsnow.jpg
We have had more snow this year so far than the total for last year's snowfall.

Well, time to stop for a short break and do some washing!

40 BELOW WIND CHILLS!!

Continuous very cold weather this past 2 weeks--temps of below 25 and 30 plus wind chills! Just unreal! And horrible! I've been trying to stay in whenever possible!

We've had so many birds at the feeder--lots of Pine Grosbeaks and Evening Grosbeaks, plus Redpolls and Chickadees. The poor little things are just burning up their food trying to keep warm. Some of the grosbeaks even had frost on their heads yesterday!

This weekend the Manitoba Theatre Centre will be coming up to do a play, so we are looking forward to that!

Tomorrow morning we are going to the retired teachers' monthly meeting. They usually have a lunch but this month it will be a breakfast at Kupper's. The new owners seem to be doing OK. Rosemary sold out last year and she and Peter moved to Regina, their son lives there. Everyone misses them, but I think they had reached the stage when they needed to hang up their shingles!

At lunch time tomorrow, I have another meeting--The Red Hat Society! It is a group of women who meet once a month and have fun and food! We will go after to the Patricia Gardens Senior centre and have a sing-along for the oldsters! The society is based on a poem "When I am an old lady, I shall wear purple....." I will tyoe it out later today. It is somewhere on my web site.

My ankles are still very sore. They are trying a new type of dressing hoping it will help. I am also back on anti-biotics. The last swab test showed 4 different kinds of bacteria growing-yuck!

Time to take a short break and fold up my washing, get my legs up for awhile.

Did anyone see "The Manchurian Candidate"--excellent movie! I saw the original years ago, I think the new version was better. We also watched "Shrek 2" the other night --it's so funny! A real keeper!

If you have posted a comment to my blog recently, could you please check to see if it is there?

CHERYL'S BIRTHDAY !

Yesterday was Cheryl's birthday, but she had to work and then went out for supper. We hope to see them on Sat. as there is a presy waiting here!
Garra's birthday is also this month on Jan 22nd, and Feb 5th is my brother, John's birhday, so I will send him a card. He is 10yrs younger than me, so this year he will be 60! My God! Where did all the years go? My baby bro!!

We all watched "The Bourne Supremacy" last night--it was very good --fast paced plot with lots of action and nice little twists and turns. My kind of movie!
Alan says he has bought "Troy" so I would like to watch that too
Time to quit for a bit

HAPPY NEW YEAR,EVERYONE! 2005!!

Cyanpancakebreakfast.jpg

Well, Cyan had to share our pancake breakfast! Guin made the pancake batter and Allen cooked pancakes and back bacon, also we had oranges, juice and coffee. What a great start to the morning!

This afternoon we all go over to Alan's for Amanda's birthday celebrations and will pig out on cake!

Guin and Allen are having a LAN party this evening and all the brothers and nieces and nephews will be over.
Allen is going to make a pile of PIZZAS! We are looking forward to that as his home made pizzas are awesome!

I put another Logic puzzle on my Blog yesterday and realized I h ad left half of it out! I will put another one on soon, just to keep those brain cells going!

Shelby's cake, Cyan's string and other odds and ends!

Time is flying by!
Guin was helping me wrap presents on the weekend and tonight, Allen made a great supper while we got ourselves tangled up with tape, wrap and ribbon! While we slave away, Allen made Tortilla wraps filled with steak and red & green peppers and onions, plus sour crream and white cheddar cheese--nummy!
On Sunday, we had home made pizzas, courtesy of Allen! He made 7 big pizzas, so we all gorged on them! I made 2 chocolate cakes with the Skor whipped cream topping plus a dash of maple liqueur! Mmm!
Last Thursday was the 1st anniversary of Misha's death last year--we still miss the little guy with his boundless energy and empathy!
However, what has been really strange for the last few days is that Cyan found an old white shoe lace which smelt of Misha and she has just been crying and meowing. We don't know where the shoe lace was and can she still remember Misha? Guin asked Anna, the vet's wife about this and she said she would be fine as long as she didn't go off her food, but it was possible that she could still remember him. We have all been very sympathetic to Cyan and giving her extra pets and strokes, etc. Isn't life strange?
Margot and Jeremy got back from Germany on Thursday and came over for the pizzas and cake on Sunday. It was so good to see them again! Little Jeremy said to me, "I really missed you Grandma!"
I could have cried!
I am so blessed with my children and grandchildren, they all mean the world to me xoxoxo

Roy is just going to make my bed time snack, some English muffin and warm milk--I get spoiled!
Tomorrow I will post the answer to last week's Blog!
Goodnight everyone!xoxoxo

November 18, 2004

I have been very lazy!

Time has just been flying by and I haven't written my blog stuff for almost a week!

We had a great birthday for Alan and bought some pizzas and had two birthday cakes--Choc.Skor cake and lemon cake with lime icing. Alan brought Amanda and Madison as Megan was out. Brad had Josh and Steph and Cary and Cheryl came too, the boys were tied up.
The next birthday is Josh's on Sundy so I will get some Chinese food and make his favourite cake and Shelby is making a cake too, so another full house on Sunday!

It's still cool but warmed up yesterday to about 10C.

On Saturday Roy and I are going to the Festival of Trees, and this year they are going to have a brunch too. The trees get decorated and then they are auctioned off for different charities.

Michelle Wright, the singer, will be in Dryden next week at the new Auditorium. Roy and I have tickets so I'm looking forward to another night out! We didn't go to any functions lastt year because I was so ill, so this year I am making up for some lost time!

We watched "Lost" last night and "Survivor" will be on in 10 mins. so I may break shortly.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new movie the "Polar Express ." Tom Hanks used experimental technology to morph into a little boy, a train conductor, a hobo and Santa Claus

break!..........

Hi to the Birthday Boy!

smiley Big Al is now 44! Wow, I am so proud of my big son--what a wonderful person he has turned out to be, despite having some problems recently, he is now on his new happy track!
We all wish him a great year to come and loads more! No more falling in big culverts!!

Tomorrow we are having cake for him, so if anyone else wants a piece, just come along!

Carol, Mom, Grandma, etc.!
xoxoxo
P.S. Alan was 9lb.3oz. when he was born, I don't know what that is in metric--they said at the hospital--"Put him on demand feeding"! I was nursing him so had to eat to keept up to greedy guts!
Oh well, it paid off!, :)

Halloween again!

family1999.jpg
I guess you all remember this! I thought it would be a good time to have a family get together!

Sorry I haven't been doing any entries lately! We went to Winnipeg for Shelby's visit and came back totally pooped! Poor Guin had a really bad cold and cough and is slowly getting better. We did some nice shopping, always great for us girlies!

The weather today is not good--wet and quite cool--high of 4 C for today forecast. We are getting some candies ready in case the grandkids come over--they usually do. Guin and Allen went out last night with their friends and dressed up--Guin was a scuba diver and Allen had on a horrible mask that Cary had lent him--long grey hair and a nasty face!

I have to break for lunch!

Greetings from my assistant!

here is cyan
She is a very bossy boss, so I have to watch my P's and Q's! Ha! Ha!
we didn't get back from Winnipeg until late last night. so I spent today trying to put my feet up as my legs were swollen from travelling and hips were bad from arthrits--complain! complain!
Shelby saw the specialist and also a wound nurse, so we were at the hospital for over 3 hrs. The doctor wants to see her again in 3 weeks. She was given 2 prescriptions for antibiotics and some pills for her veins.
We managed to do some shopping at Polo Park on Wednesday and then went to see "Ladder 49" in the evening. It was well done and of course, made us think about the firefighters of 9/11. I recommend ir and would give it a Good rating.
The next day we went to Portage Place and the Forks, so got all pooed out again.!
Today Guin and Allen went and bought all the groceries we need for Thanksgiving. All the family will be over and also Amy and Eric and Chrisisen, their little 2 yr. old son.
I went to the Body Shop and bought some nice smelly stuff!
Pause now while I go back and read my Comments from my Blog and see if anyone did get the puzzle!
