There is a new musical now on in New York for all you Monty Python fans--"Spamalot"! It opens in England in 932 A.D. and King Arthur tries to assemble a motley crew of knights to seek the Holy Grail. There is a vacuous Sir Galahad, a bravely unstable Sir Lancelot and Sir robin who tends to soil his drawers at a mere hint of danger. The Black Knight, the Killer Rabbit, the Knights Who Say Ni and flying livestock are all portrayes in the musical. It sounds really funny!
For those of you who tried the latest LOGIC PUZZLE--here is the answer to 4B The Spelling Contest!
Considerations: From statements 6 and 7, Helen is not Knudson or Olsen and from statement 1, she is not North. Therefore, Helen is Salisbury. from statement 4, Eric placed second. Therefore from statement 6, he is not Knudson. From statement 4, Eric is not Olsen. Therefore, Eric is North. From statement 5, Gordie did not win, but placed higher than Jennings. Therefore, since Knudson placed fifth (statement 6), Gordie is Olsen and Lois is Knudson. Eleanor Jennings placed fourth , Gordie Olsen placed third , and Eric North placed second (statement 5) . Helen Salisbury was the winner.
From statements 1 and 2, Lois misspelled "physiognomy", Eleanor misspelled ""bivouac", Gordie misspelled "vicissitude", and Eric misspelled "isthmus".
Summary Solutions:
Eleanor Jennings bivouac 4th place
Eric North isthmus 2nd place
Gordie Olsen vicissitude 3rd place
Helen Salisbury 1st place (winner)

The last logic puzzle was posted on Jan. 7th--"Fishing Vacation Plans". Here is the solution:
Considerations:
From statements 1,3,6 and 7, Barrott’s first name is neither Andy,Bill, Carl, nor Dennis. Therefore, one of these four statements is the false one.
From statement 5, Barrott was one of the two who are not married. This is contradictory to statement 3. Therefore, statement 3 is false.
Therefore, Barrott;s first name is Carl. From statements 4 and 6, Dennis is not Whelan or Crowley. Therefore, Dennis is Cole.
From statements 4,6 and 7 ,Whelan’s favourite destination was the third. Crowley’s was the last, and Barrott’s was the first. Therefore, Cole’s favourite destinationwas the second one.
Our conclusions so far are:
From statement 4, the third destination was neither Patagonia nor New Zealand. Therefore, it was either Alaska or Iceland. From statement 6, the trip to New Zealand was not planned to be the first or the fourth destination. From statement 2, the trip to Iceland was planned for the year
before the trip to Alaska. Therefore, the first trip must have been planned for Patagonia; the second trip, New Zealand, the third trip, Iceland, and the fourth trip, Alaska.
From statement 2, Andy’s favourite destination was not Alaska (which , from statement 6, was Crowley’s favourite). Therefore, Andy is Whelan and
Bill is Crowley.
Summary Solutions:
Andy Whelan Iceland third
Bill Crowley Alaska fourth
Carl Barrott Patagonia first
Dennis Cole New Zealand second
Hint--put this solution together with the puzzle to see how it all ties in.
It sounds complicated at first, but you can solve it with a bit of time!
I’ll post a new puzzle tomorrow!
I hope this all worked out on my blog--the copy paste stuff!!

This is Puzzle 2B FISHING VACATION PLANS
Carl and three of his friends who are avid fishermen decided to visit four of the world's finest sport fishing locations over a period of four years. Each friend had a different favourite location, so they chose the order in which they would take the trips ny drawing the place names from a hat. Based on the statements below, what is the first name (Andy, Bill, Carl or Dennis) and surname (one is Cole) of each friend, what was the favourite fishing location of each, and what was the order in which the trips were to be taken?
First Name Surname Favourite Location Order of Trips
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the statements below is false.
1 Andy and Barrott work for the same company, Bill is self-employed.
2 The Iceland trip was planned for the year before the Alaska trip, which was not Andy's favourite
destination.
3 Carl and Barrott and their wives frequently play bridge together.
4 Whelan's favourite fishing location was the third trip which was neither Patagonia nor New Zealand
5 Whelan and Cole are married, the other two are not.
6 Dennis was disappointed that his favourite destination, New Zealand, was not to be the first; Crowley's favourite destination was planned for the last trip, so he was unsympathetic.
7 Barrott's favourite destination was the first.
I will post the solution soon!

John and Joan Anderson Santa Barbara
Keep up the good work and pat yourself on the back if you got it right!!!
I just re-read some of my earlier blogs and realized I didn't say anything about the new auditorium!
It certainly is a special place--we now have a place for, not only educational but cultural as well!
There are padded seats which are tiered in the concert hall itself, so no matter where you are sitting, you can see the stage as the seats are all staggered. Also, for the concerts, you can buy tickets ahead of time and choose your own seat. The concerts are organized by the Dryden Entertainment Series.
For the opening week, on the First Night, there was a Gala Opening and Michael Burgess sang. he has starred in Les Miz, Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. In the first half he sang songs that were not too familiar to everyone, but once he got going on the musicals, we were really loving it! He had a wonderful tenor voice. His accompanists were excellent --pianist, saxophonist and guitar.
The next night was a combination of the Thunder Bay Symphony and a band from the East coast who played Celtic music--a mix of lively and quieter. Roy and I enjoyed the symphony more. On Friday night they had "Local Talent"! It was great! A big variety--songs,keyboard, dancing--both the Dryden School of Ballet (they did ballet and Jazz) and also the Zurka Dancers danced their little boots off!
The last three concerts that week were a country western singer (we skipped ) and Fred Penner.,
